Now on TCM A SUMMER PLACE

I have seen this movie one other time and what started out to be a great movie of fun it really is a sad movie but I still enjoy watching it with Sandra Dee. I wanted to post in case someone wanted to see the movie. It is 23 minutes into it but it is a long movie.

I'm watching. It's one of my all time favorites. Just prior to this they aired 'Marty' starring Ernest Borgnine (Tova's late husband). That's another all-time favorite. Ernie won (deservedly so) an Academy Award and so did the picture. If I'm not mistaken, Betsy Blair, his co-star, also won an Academy Award. She was married to the dancer Gene Kelly when she got the part but they divorced about a year later. Just love the old movies. ENJOY!

Pretty theme song. Awful story. Especially Molly's mom - what a disturbed, judgmental, critical, woman. So self-righteous - must have been her religion. She could have been a Westboro member.

I can't stand her mother.......the good old days.......they wanted to go to a hotel but knew they would ask for their marriage license........back then at least we all thought there were values and there were.......morals also.......and if they were not moral it was not in the open........thank you for posting the name of the song.

Morals, in reality many men visited other women even though they were married and some females had affairs as well. It's in the open now but people don't want to admit it. Values? The thrills and excitement mattered then as much as they do now.

No Lana Turner was in Peyton Place. Summer Place was Constance Ford's most famous role.

This movie genre is one of my guilty pleasure. In many of her close-ups, Sandra Dee looked like Drew Barrymore.

Troy Donahue was gorgeous. What a contrast between Richard Egan's almost melodic voice and Constance Ford's harsh voice. Talk about good parent, bad parent.

My sister and I use to play our 45 rpm record, Theme From A Summer Place on my mother's hi-fi. Instrumentals of movie themes were big in the 50's and 60's.

TCM had some good ones on yesterday. I watched Wife vs Secretary yesterday morning with Clark Gable, Jean Harlow and Myrna Loy.

Later on, I too watched Summer Place.

One of my favorites as well! Listening to it conjures up warm summer days. It's a perfect song to put me in vacation mode!

The music was written by Max Steiner. Percy Faith & his Orchestra recorded the popular version that was played constantly on the top-40 radio stations at the time.

Funny now to think that Troy Donahue was considered such a hunky catch at the time, but those were the old days when people were forced to hide their true natures. That is the sad part of that movie, to me.
