Drug commercials LOL...

The new one playing over and over again Latuda...how could anyone be depressed with Latuda, its even fun to say .

Of course there is a cheerful, pleasant womans voice telling you of all the horrible side effects...so soothing.

I would ask my Doctor for some Latuda, it does sound like such a happy drug...but I guess it is for bipolar depression.

I am in no way poking fun of bipolar depression with this thread...I am laughing at the name of the drug.

Have always wondered where the pharmaceutical companies get the names of drugs from.......

By the way I didn't think you were poking fun......

What I don't get is why do they have to be running ads on prescription drugs in the first place, on TV and sometimes 3 pages on one drug in a magazine. If it's out there, undoubtedly your doctor knows about it........

Yep...this one, I can just see someone saying La tee da, I'm on Latuda. It makes me chuckle.

The ads drive hubby and I nuts on TV, bothersome side effects including death said in such cheerful voices.

I have always wondered if the drug ads in magazines took over for the tobacco ads...

I agree if it is out there and helpful for me, hopefully my Doctor knows of it. I wonder how many people come in asking for medications they don't need because they saw it on TV or in a magazine...

Not all doctors are up to date on medication...........I have mentioned some to my doctor that he knew about but had forgotten about and he tried them on me. I also think they get the name from the chemical they use to make the drug......part chemical part name to help describe like Lunesta.........the butterfly flying which I would like to try that medication for sleep. I am on restoril now and only taking 15mg and it really is not putting me out fast enough and keeping me asleep long enough. Ugh.......I am so ready for new sleeping pills at cheap prices but they do have a new pain drug out that can kill people but the FDA approved it anyway and I think it starts with a Z.

Some commercials for drugs, etc., I just love, even though I know the drugs are horrible. For example, I love the Celebrex commercial for some reason. The one where it's winter and the man comes out of his house and he throws a snowball at (I assume) his son who is shoveling snow. Then the wife comes out of the house and they take a walk and meet friends and later on the boy throws a snowball at the dad. For some reason, this always makes me smile!

I do not understand why these companies advertise these prescription drugs on tv. You cant go to your Dr and say hey write me a script I saw on tv. Its up to the Dr. Plus I always laugh when I hear all the BAD type side effects. Its like take this for such and such but it could cause a heart attack, organ failure, the list goes on. When I hear that I think oh gee that just makes me want to take that medicine.....NOT!

I have a special distaste for the ads for the Alzheimer's drugs. They show a pleasantly befuddled older person who needs ""just a little help"" to be independent.

It minimizes how devastating the disease is to the person who has it and the family who have to watch it. Also perpetuates the idea that dementia is just a ""memory problem"".

It's legalized drug pushing to fill the already full pockets of Big Pharma. And it's allowed because Big Pharma controls Congress.

They wouldn't include the "side effects" if it wasn't mandated by law. Thankful for that at least, even though most people pooh pooh it, and most doctors will tell you "it's very rare." I can't tell you how many times I have heard that phrase from doctors. After all, they get a piece of the pie also.

That Latuda medication is so annoying. The cheery female voice telling the side effects and its actually a drug developed for schizophrenia not manic-depression. It's an atypical antipsychotic drug in the same class as Seroquel which they also push for bi-polar. They can't make money off the old school meds so they push these meds with scary side-effcts.

Ads for OTC drugs are bad too imho.Convince us to buy things w some pretty bad side effects too & we don't need a doc to prescribe those
