Anniversary Party?

This is the first Anniversary party we have been to, it's for friends of ours.

I have no idea on what kind of gift to bring, or should we just bring wine...... but they are not really wine drinkers....LOL

A restaurant certificate would be my choice. Usually, the anniversary parties I've been to have stipulated no gifts.

What is it with people and gift cards? Every occasion someone, many ones advise a bossy gift card that requires the person to go somewhere or do something whether they want to or not.

There are all sorts of places, B&M as well as online where people sell their gift cards for a fraction of what they are worth. If Gift Cards were all that people wouldn't be getting rid them for less than their face value.

hey, ill take anyones gift cards that dont want them. LOL

i agree.....gift cards attached to some flowers or a plant or a box of chocolates.....local restaurant, sports.....baseball/basketball, movies, an "event" in the area.

if they like a certain thing, say coffee, make a good morning gift basket with coffees, teas, hot chocolate, some sweets, preserves, etc.....

Maybe some yummy pate and great crackers that you would not indulge in at home, but could be easily served and enjoyed at the party.

Since they are your friends you must have some idea of their likes and interests. I agree with sunshine, gift cards are always a great option whether it's to a store or a restaurant or for the theatre, or a musical or sporting event. Another idea is a nice card with an invitation for you to take them out to dinner or a nice lunch sometime, then it's a gift you can all enjoy together. Whatever you get them, I'm sure they will appreciate it since it truly is the thought that counts. They will probably be happy just celebrating their happy occasion with friends.

LOLOL! Haven't you heard? They made a new flavor especially for DownPour!

Personally, I'll take all the bossy gift cards anyone wants to give me.

You must not have heard of American Express gift cards. They are accepted most everywhere and the recipient can choose to use them wherever they please.

Problem solved.

Anniversary parties I have been to friends have brought picture frames, a picture holder that turns and you put pictures in it. Also how about a nice lantern with a flameless candle in it, a tray someone got us a beautiful set of wind chimes that are only about 12 inches long and they are made out of glass or crystal they are small and dainty and I have them near my kitchen window on the side off my sink. They don't make any noise since they are inside but when the light hits them they are beautiful, the chimes on it are not even 8 inches long.

I love gifts cards, everyone I know that gives them,makes sure that they give one the person will use, makes less chance of giving something someone does not want, but must keep anyway to try and spare feelings.

American Express gift cards are only accepted where American Express cards are accepted. Many restaurants and smaller businesses do not take Am Ex. If you are looking for a gift card taken in the most places, it is Visa.

Personally I think gift cards can be a pain to use.

I expressed my opinion of gift cards, I scolded no one. Your post, however was crude. You may not like my opinion but at least nothing I post is crude.

We were in JoAnn's Friday night, I stepped up to pay and the cashier said the lady ahead of you said to use the balance on her gift card- it was $1.92 and I was very grateful- actually got to thank the lady in person. Any gift cards that we get I always use every penny.. even if it's less than a dollar.. and the people we give gift cards too always ask for them, American Express can be used for gas too.

OP, I'd give the couple something to remind them of their travels or memories, like a picture or something.

We don't do gift cards among my family and friends but I got a gift card as a thank you from a company with whom I do business. It was a Visa or American Express, can't remember, but it was a bank card that could be used anywhere, supposedly. I tried to use it in a store where a balance remained after the card amount was deducted. After several tries the card was 'locked out' and I had to call the cc company to find out the problem The problem was that I had to pay the amount over and above the card value first then the card. They reactivated the card so that I was able to use it. Would I have wanted a friend to experience the frustration in the store and have to call the card company, absolutely not.

If you don't want to bother shopping for something the recipient would enjoy, if that's too much trouble, then why not just give cash which is exactly what a gift card is. The difference is that a gift card may be put aside and never used. Annually, more than 1 billion in gift cards go unused.

I have never had a problem with gift cards, ever, but I give and receive them for specific stores, if I had a bad experience I may not care for them either....I don't normally give cash, instead of a card, because I want the person to treat themselves, cash may be spent on other things, gas, kids lunches, etc...but if I give a woman a gift card for a mani/pedi at a nice salon, and include enough for a tip, that is a better gift.
