Costco...WOW!

For those of you that saw the Modern Family episode where Cam & Mitch go to Costco, and Mitch saying "what is this place" well that was us yesterday!

DH & I have been meaning to go for quite some time and just haven't. $285 and a bulging cart later we're no longer newbies. Actually we never made it to the interior of the store. Only the food items. I was afraid to go any further lol.

BTW we have TP & paper towels to last until Christmas

What are your best Costco stories?????

We're finally getting a Costco here later this year, and we're definitely going to check it out. We don't generally buy in bulk, but I understand Costco has a variety of different items that we might be interested in.

Lily1, we don't have a Costco's near us so we shop at BJ's. I have tons of paper towels, tissue, tpaper, spoons, detergent, dishwasher tabs, paper plates & other things put back.

We are hooked

no great stories, but we have go to items and then there is the impulse buying.

Can't go wrong with their cheeses and meats. Consumer's rates their meats and cleanliness the highest. The paper products and cleaning supplies are great. We get batteries, local eggs, coffee, nuts, and a bread that is okay for me (diabetic). They carry a line of womens pants that can't be beat. Mens jeans and kids clothing are great prices.

There are very few items that have been disappointing. But if you are unhappy they will gladly refund your money, their returns are simple. We do keep receipts for a few days to make sure everything is a go. We buy shorts and jeans for our kids (adults) and if they are they wrong size they can return them.

What kind of things did you buy?

Unfortunately I don't live near a Costco, but when visiting my sister in San Antonio, she made a whole morning of shopping there. It was fun.....and by the way the make a fantastic shrimp salad. I could eat that every day......

Try the Aram sandwiches, I love them for a quick lunch or dinner with a salad. Turkey, sliced cheese, tomato, etc. rolled in a wrap and ready to eat. You can find them in a deli-type section near the meat counter, along with other ready to go food.

Be sure to check the books and magazine section.

The nearest Costco to me is about 30 minutes away in St. Catherine's Ontario.

I'm afraid to go...I would have trouble getting back over the border with an SUV packed to the brim!

Everyone's Trader Joe suggestions have been great, BTW. The TJ's is in a suburb, aboyt a 20 minute drive. I have been going twice a month or so. The Orange Chicken is out of this world...and the chicken pot pies...and the Pastry Pups...I could go on and on....even the Banana Bread mix was super - and very affordable too.

If anyone wants a Q-Tip, I'll share. I picked up a huge pack one day and my husband picked up one by mistake so we have a lifetime supply. Love that store although Costco is trying to figure out how to attract the millennial generation.

Costco? Great coffee (just the ground stuff in the 3 lb can is almost as good as boutique coffee). Their Kirkland Green Tea. Good wines and cheeses.

During hurricane season? cheap batteries, beans, and camp stoves, things like that.

Paper supplies: reams of printer paper, good pens, mailing tape, etc. Having a dinner party? Incredible cut flowers, large gatherings, for very little money--true also for their orchids.

Christmas boxes and wrapping paper, excellent.

Vitamins and cosmetics (Olay, which I use, at deep discounts several times a year). Mascara and shampoo.

Too many things to mention. It's a wonderful way to save money. I don't like shopping there (too crazy and the lines are long) but it's worth it.

Probably I'm in the minority, but I would be so glad if they stopped doing free samples. Clogs up the aisles, and I like to get out of there as fast as I can, because it's a bit crazy in S. FL.

I did not care for the quality of the prescription glasses I ordered there. That's about it for a negative experience, and yet they took the glasses back with only a sour look. No real problem.

At Christmas time, they have a single-malt Scotch (Kirkland brand) that I buy for a friend addicted to single-malt Scotch. It's really good.

Absolutely! I love their Kirkland moisture shampoo and conditioner, I also buy their version of Tylenol and allergy pills.

Be sure to check out their pharmacy area, whatever you need is most likely there at very reduced prices.

I just looked up Costco's in FLA...I will be near two of them in a few weeks...first Ft. Myers (it looks like they have 2 locations) and then Ponce Inlet (near Orlando).

OH. NO.

I love shopping at Costco. I also belong to Sams but prefer Costco. They are both about 45 min from me. I wish Costco was closer. I try to go during the week when it is less crowded. I get Paper Towels, Toilet Paper, all kinds of veggies, dry goods, all types of things.

Terrier, Best to look at the online site.

I'm not sure about the guest pass: they used to have a day pass, but you couldn't purchase with it, just look. Costco is good in Fl, though.

I've been to Massachusetts Costcos with relatives and they are not as good.

I try not to go very often because I always over-buy. I never leave without their rotisserie chicken for $4.99. It's always so moist and flavorful.
