must be spring........the gopher wars have started

I HATE those darn things and we get a lot of them...........my hubs had mowed the yard this weekend.........the next morning I see a huge pile of dirt.........gopher sign ......so last night I shoved a hose down the hole and turned on the water, it ran for a bit but then came out the hole..........I know it can dig let's see if it can swim............this morning fresh dirt BUT he had buried the hose in the hole.......so I just turned the hose of full blast and I don't know where that water is going but it's not coming back up out of the hole...................................raven

Peppermint oil, tabasco sauce ..... try that instead of water. Don't know if it will help, but saves on the water bill.

I'll try anything.......I have NO idea where all that water is going.......it should be going out the escape hole.......but if there is one it's not in my yard........I also heard to use moth balls down the hole........................................raven

Today I noticed about 10 holes in my yard all in the same are that were a little bigger than the size of a quarter. They were not there a couple of days ago. What makes holes like that? I figured a mole or gopher. I have a lawn service do my lawn, hedges and edging so I will ask them what I can use to keep them away without killing them but to just keep them away.

Look up a device called The Black Hole gopher trap. It works. We've used it 3 different times and had 3 dead gophers within 30 minutes of Mr. kdgn setting it up.

There was a mole in our backyard last year that drove the dog crazy - He'd sit by that hole for hours. He was obsessed!!!

I have no intentions of doing anything humane where these critters are concerned........they burrow under your house.......and they DO..........your foundation is ruined.............................raven

I guess I was surprised, as you seemed to be an animal lover in previous posts, and not just of dogs. One who would try other methods first.

It doesn't go IN the tunnel, it goes in the opening of the tunnel. The 3 gophers were large too, not little guys. If you have a lot of tunnels you do one at a time. Where the mound of dirt is located is where you dig a small amount and place the trap.

We wouldn't have bought it if we knew it wouldn't work. We had borrowed a friend's because he swore by it. Mr. Skeptic decided to give it a try and after he disposed of the gopher he was on the internet, placing the order.

we had mole issues a few years ago....couldn't believe how much dirt they could move in a day
