How interested are you in "the arts?"

I think NY would be a great place to take in the most of the arts, but you can go to plays, symphonys, etc. I pass something on t.v. now and then and do a dead stop in this area to watch performers. I like to see ballet too, since childhood...

Any others out there feel the same way?

I am a supporter of the Arts. I enjoy most all. I was given piano, drawing/painting, dance - ballet, tap, modern dance as a child. Ice skating though I didn't care for that and I sang with the girls in a choir. I so enjoy Opera too as well as stage. New York would be a good place to take in most of the arts but other large metropolitan cities offer them as well.

A good post with heart warming memories and hopes of future attendances.

Meant to add I enjoy visiting the Art Galleries and Museums as well as musical performances and film viewings.

I love the arts and living close to Philadelphia I can enjoy many of them. I love ballet, I saw Swan Lake performed by the Royal London Ballet. I saw a Renoir exhibition when it toured in the US. I love Opera and have seen several including Madame Butterfly. Not to mention all the good musicals at the Academy of Music and Walnut street theater.

NYC may have the most art as a major city in the US, but I think Philadelphia is a great place to enjoy the arts along with it's history. It is an experience to walk the streets and tour the buildings where America's government began.

Luckily I live in Southern California where I can enjoy great performances of all types- My parents were great supporters of the arts and took me to so many performances as a child- I ,in turn, took my own son to the same- in fact, my daughter in law often tells me me I "ruined" him for her, because he has already seen so many great plays and performances that when they go to New York and other places, he no longer has anything "new" to see! ( not exactly true,as there is always something new!) but you get the idea-

We have many great theaters and museums here- My mother was an artist and we went to art exhibits regularly as well ( she was a Matisse fanatic!)

I never go to movies, nor rent them. I wait until they come out on TV. I saw Titanic about 5 years after if had come out! Just me... I just do not need to see the newest movie. I went to an Opera when I was 12 FORCED TO GO when my school class went. I hated it so much I never went to one again. Do not like ballet or dancing . Never been to a concert live... too loud( as are movie theaters) and I hate loud. No children( thank goodness!) I have many interests that just do not have to do with the arts. To each his own I say! Touche!

Very interested, totally immersed! Piano and voice growing up, and I loved just about every genre of music. I got interested in visual arts in college and took all the art history courses offered along with a few applied arts courses. My DH and I loved and supported local performances and exhibits.

We also went to Charleston's Spoleto Festival every summer, staying for one or two weeks. Every day was filled with symphony concerts, plays, dance, opera, contemporary and classical, from America and other countries, art and fine craft shows. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves both performing and visual arts. It's a playground for anyone who loves the arts.

Very fortunate to live in the DC area - lots of choices.

Love, opera, ballet, plays, music, etc. etc.

Have been a financial supporter of the arts for years.

I'd die without music, dance, film, art. I think the arts are where our souls live.

When I lived in NYC my FAVORITE place to go was City Center to see the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre.

I've always had a love for the arts. I was listening to classical when my friends were listening to Elvis. However wild horses would not get me to the Eastern metro areas to attend performances. If I can't see it at a gallery in Santa Fe or at the opera there, I'll do without. I had an open invitation from an aunt who lived in a huge penthouse in NYC to visit. Not interested.

We have a similar background! I took piano lessons as a child, my mother was very artistic and taught me about art. I also took dance lessons, I loved tap. Ice skating, also, which I loved. I sang in the church choir for young people but I do not sing well My mother had a good friend who sang in the San Francisco opera and she and I would go to the opera together.

San Francisco has wonderful museums. I started taking my daughter when she was a few months old. The curator got to know us. I'd hold her up to see a painting or a vase from ancient China and explain it to her. Her elementary school always did museum and aquarium field trips.

Unfortunately, art is usually the first subject cut in schools around the nation and I find that very sad and very upsetting.

I'll be honest, I live in the Boston area. So, I have access to the symphony, museums of every sort, conservatories, art galleries, the ballet, theatre, concerts etc. Professional, college and community based. And of course, there are concerts galore. We have it all. I go to the theatre once, sometimes twice a year. I haven't been to the symphony or to the ballet in years. Yes, I believe in the arts. I made sure that my girls were introduced to the theatre and ballet and the symphony. But when we are looking for entertainment now, we tend to take in a movie.

I was wondering the same thing, Kitty. I fell in love with Santa Fe and Taos when visiting there, and would go again in a heartbeat. But I feel the same way about my trips to NYC. I know some people aren't crazy about the traffic and congestion, but I loved going to The Cloisters to chill out any time the city seemed too busy or noisy.

I spent the first 18 years of my life live right near Ft. Tryon Park where the Cloisters are. It is a very peaceful place.
