I make popcorn almost every day. It's what I usually have for lunch. I use an ordinary sauce pan on top of the stove. I shake just once if at all.

I like my local grocery store's generic brand best. After years of thinking Orville Redinbacher was the best, I bought the store brand once when they were out of Orville. Now I only buy Orville when they they are out of their store brand. Also, I recently switched from olive oil to coconut oil. LOVE it with the coconut oil! I get a big tub of virgin organic stuff from Costco. Can't think of the brand at the moment.

I sprinkle on a little Lite Salt. I don't put melted butter on top anymore like I did back in the old days. I do sometimes drizzle just a tiny bit more coconut oil over the top of my big ole bowl.

Yep, I sure do love my popcorn! LOL!!

We'll be making (actually, I'll be making) popcorn tonight, and it'll be stovetop. We used to have one of those stir crazy popcorn makers, and the kids liked to watch that, but now I make it on top of the stove and can't believe how easy it is. I remember that's how mom used to make it when I was a kid, and there was a whole lot of shakin' going on with hers--not so with me lol, as I only shake the pan once, to get the kernels covered with oil.

When I was in college, a lot of us had the ones with the heating element, pan, and glass lid. Whoever had one was very popular, and we'd also use them to heat canned soups. Popcorn makers have certainly changed through the years.

How do you make yours?

My husband is the king of making popcorn here. He uses the Presto OR one which costs around $30. He buys the American's Best Jolly time white pop corn kernels and uses soybean oil in the popper, along with some light butter.

You can use any oil that you wish, though. I've had a lot of different popcorn, including the microwavable kind and this is by far the best IMO.

Good luck.

The really old fashioned way. Orville Redenbacher in a heavy pot with a heavy top, just a little canola oil, over the gas burner on the stove, shaking it most of the time.

Nothing tastes as good as that, imo

I take a 4 Qt. pot with lid. Put enough canola oil to cover the bottom and then add 1/4 Cup unpopped corn kernels. I cook on medium high to high heat and cover with a lid. When the corn stops popping, I take it off the heat and transfer to a mixing bowl where I add some salt to the popped corn.

I don't eat popcorn and the only time I have known my husband to is the day he bought it. Hasn't used it since. It looked like movie popcorn though if that helps describe it. Actually the only person in my family that eats popcorn is my mom. She uses the stir crazy at home and the cart thing is like a major project to clean up after you use it. Even if I loved popcorn I don't have an 1 1/2 hr to dedicate to clean up.
