Halo Orange Commercial

After our recent discussion on how we felt about the obnoxious children on the Halo commercial, I decided to send them a message with my thoughts and I mentioned that many on a bulletin board (no name) also found it disturbing. I actually got a response.

Our commitment to grow, harvest and sell healthy produce is driven by our respect for the American family. We have a passion for offering nutritious snacking alternatives for children as well as parents. We know that kids love our delicious, easy-to-peel mandarins, and our ad was intended to be a tongue-in-cheek way to reinforce the message that healthy eating can and should be a family affair. Great that they responded, but I didn't see a "family affair" in there anywhere. It was ....they are mine and keep your hands off!

Thank you so much for addressing those ads! I have been out of town and off these boards, so I missed the initial discussion. I told my DH how disrespectful those kids are. Grrrr! Terrible example for sure. Tongue-in-check did NOT work in this instance. As a retired teacher, I saw first hand how these kinds of things transition into acceptable daily behavior. NOT GOOD IMHO!

Wow, I'm so glad I'm not alone. I truly hate this commercial. This could be one of the most awful commercials I have ever seen. I change the channel every time this is shown on TV. I could not believe how this story board got approved by halo at all. A "Halo" is associated with saints not evil self entitled little demons. I'm not a violent person, but every time I see this commercial, it makes me want to smack these children from being so rude and disrespectful to their parents. This commercial is teaching children that it's fine to be selfish instead of teaching them to be kind and selfless. There is nothing cute about it at all. You truly missed the mark on this one. Family affair ? Seriously? how could it be a family affair when these demon children wouldn't even share. Geez...FYI, I don't think I'll be buying your product anytime soon.

Remember back I the '50's and even well into the '60's on TV when parents had all the answers, were stern but benevolent, and helped their kids to grow up and solve problems and discipline them if necessary? The kids respected them, and in a way feared them.. I know this was not reality, in many cases, and unlike Donna Reid, no one wore heels doing the dishes

But then the sitcoms turned totally around, where the kids had all the answers, made fun of the parents and were generally obnoxious...They seemed to hold all the adults hostage, in a way... It became common for them to always have the "last word" on everything.... and this isn't reality either...

This commercial really represents the worst of the latter type of thinking- Can you imagine if you ever, seriously spoke to your own parents like that, what would happen?

The main problem? TV is, to many, reality- and kids see this type of behavior and they DO think its normal after a while- and we see this type of disrepectful behavior play out in schools, on the streets and in society in general, where it becomes the "norm"....

I am no shrinking violet, and have always been something of a rebel, but I respect others, BECAUSE they are humans, and as such deserve respect- and I think many of us were raised this way, I raised MY son this way, but it seems to be a dying breed-

These types of behaviors are hurtful in many ways, and though I don't believe in censorship, or telling others what they can say, I really wonder about the judgement of the folks who put together these ad campaigns.. Oh, but of course, they were raised on TV too!!

Glad I got to read this thread, cause those commercials drive me bonkers. I don't there is anything entertaining in the behavior of smart a@@ kids. If I was the parent, I'd tell the kid well who do you think pays for "your" Halos.

I do not think the halo commercial can have a positive effect on a child viewing this. It is a contradiction to what most parents teach their children and that is to share and be respectful to their parents. This commercial is not funny it is in total bad taste and should be removed from viewing during the hours a child may be viewing.

It would be nice to know more about the product instead of how it's being used to make fools out of the adults paying for them.
