That pooping in the house is not the dogs fault - it is the owners responsibility to train the dog. It should be the owner sitting there with the sign.

Our dog is very well trained, but sometimes we don't get to the door on time for some reason, and well, **it happens.

Big deal, get a paper towel and some Lysol.

I wonder if the dog's expression is due to fear of the owner's displeasure at finding a 'gift' on the floor inside the house.

Well, i think part of the training process is - when you go to the door and bark I will be there to let you out. If you don't go when they tell you they need out you will get what you deserve.
