Frivolous poll question...

This is just a frivolous question based on a story in the news, and I'm curious what people would do.

Perhaps you have heard by now of the California couple that discovered a bunch of gold coins in their backyard? They were minted in the 1800's and their current day value is approximately $10Million...not a bad find for walking around your property.

So the question is... would you tell your friends and relatives if you found buried treasure in your yard?

It would be tempting to share such exciting news for sure. This couple asked to remain anonymous, and can't say I blame them. If it were me, I wouldn't tell my family, they are a bunch of selfish money-grubbers that would probably show up at my house with shovels and backhoes. I would most certainly share the bounty with my family in the UK that have never asked for a thing, and always extended love and kindness. Family issues aside, even if you told close friends, would they keep it secret? Would they start asking you if they could borrow money? Instant fortune complicates relationships.

I hope this couple continues to remain anonymous, for their sake, and that they get to enjoy the bounty of the treasure they discovered. Lots of travel and trips, and hopefully they will donate some to charities.

I say good for them... the only things I've ever discovered in my yard were some buried squirrel nuts and some hidden dog poo.

I guess it just depends what kind of family you have. Overall, I'm very lucky, and I'd be happy to share some of my good fortune with them.

I'd also give extra $$$ to charities I already support, and invest the rest.

I've dug numerous holes in my yard over the years, and always hoped I'd find something valuable. I did find a small, old coin once. I looked it up on ebay, and learned it had a value of about $6.

I read stories like this, my hub told me about it after he saw it in the news. We're too unlimber now to continue with the metal detecting we used to do. I loved it. It was fun, we were outside, adult way to play outside. The excitement of finding things was fun.

One beach we were at a woman came up to me and said if you find a gold necklace, it's mine. Out of the blue, mind you. Right.............. LOL

I'd share the good fortune with my family (DH, siblings and parents). Plus two or three other friends who've fallen on hard times. I'd also give to charity. I'd leave out one uncle who is self centered and a real piece of work.

I would tell and share with my closest relatives. I would also donate to some of the charities that we already give to. Then I would build a cabin in the mountains.....

We would do, what we already do with our income. It sure would be nice and fun to have, let alone not having to work hard to get it. Bonus!

I would do the same things I would do if I won the lottery, which would include not telling anyone except my attorney and financial advisors.

I think we would keep it to ourselves. If i were them I would let someone professional like Southbys auction them off for me, and I could remain annoymous.

Holy kitten caboodle! I'd buy some extra strength duct tape, place it on my lips, and keep my mouth shut!!! Our house sits on a former orchard. I guess all I'd find would be apple or pear seedlings.

Congrats to the CA couple. I hope they use the money wisely and give at least some of it to a charity of their choice.

If I found buried treasure or the lottery, I wouldn't want to tell anyone outside the immediate family.

A girl I went to high school with won the lottery. The lottery officials recommended that she move away and not tell anyone in her new city that she won it.
