In Cold Blood, The Movie

I noticed that this was scheduled for yesterday, as part of TCM's countdown-to-the-Oscars offerings. I've read the book, and we have the DVD (I always see it at Big Lots, too), but I was happy to see it aired. Despite Capote's many inaccuracies and outright fabrications, In Cold Blood is worth seeing. Robert Blake, a young Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead), Will Geer, and John Forsythe all turn in memorable performances. The film is shot in black and white, adding to the menacing tone and dark subject matter. In addition, we can thank the talented and always-mesmerizing Quincy Jones for the film's haunting score, one of the best I've ever heard.

Catch this one if you can.

I agree, In Cold Blood was a fine movie and Robert Blake did a remarkable job. If you like it, I think you will also like Badlands with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek based on the Carol Fugate/Charles Starkweather murders. It's a very chilling film.

It is a difficult movie to watch subject-wise, but is a triumph of acting and cinematography.

I TiVo'd it and am waiting for the right time to watch it. I don't want any interruptions. A nice rainy Saturday would be good. I plan on watching it over the weekend. Can't wait.

That movie is why I double check the doors at night.

""Helter Skelter "" (the book) is why I make sure all the knives are out of sight when I go to bed.

That book was considered to be the first non-fiction novel, thus not intended to be an absolutely true accounting of what happened. Yes, horrible story, but great book & movie.

I'm aware of the genre. Notwithstanding that fact, even Capote insisted that it was a true accounting of what happened. Even more fabrications have come to light after his death.

I remember after my mother read it, she burned it in the furnace so we wouldn't read it.

I recall reading "The Boston Strangler" shortly after I moved into my first apartment & was living alone for the first time in my life. Boy, what a mistake; i woke up in the night trying o scream & nothing came out of my mouth

Moonlady, your description is spot-on ... it's one of the best movies of this genre, and the black/white grainy film only added to the gritty, macabre nature of the story.

I found this movie shocking, scary and depressing. But, what amazes me, that this is almost a common everyday occurrence now. I think we have become desensitized because murder and executions are in the news all the time.

This type of negativity is not something I want to fill my mind with. I rather fill my mind with happy movies that uplift my spirit rather then murder that serves no purpose but to frighten and depress the viewer.

I recently watched this movie, for the first time in ages, because of Scott Wilson. I had no idea, when he was on Walking Dead, that he was the other killer with Robert Blake. It was really strange to see him from 40-50 years ago!

I cannot remember if I streamed it from Netflix (I have Netflix on two of my TVs) or if I just rented it from Amazon. I might have done that. It's just a few bucks. So, if you don't have that channel, there are other places to see it.

I recall being a student nurse as Richard Speck made headlines killing 8 student nurses in Chicago. I know there is a movie (2007), and I still don't want to see it.
