Almonds and coffee

The price of almonds is predicted to skyrocket due to the drought in CA. Same with coffee. The drought in Brazil has devastated the coffee bean crop. Even more bad news for coffee lovers, global climate change could put coffee beans in the extinct category. Hope the beans last as long as I do. I could not fathom morning without coffee

I will give up my diet cokes in order to pay any price for my DH to have his morning coffee.....oh, what a horrible sight that would be. LOL

Oh no! I just couldn't part with my coffee in the mornings. I guess I'll have to drink hot chocolate or hot tea if it comes down to that.

Our drought is very, very, serious. Not just almonds but everything else that is grown here. California/US feeds a lot of the world, not just our nation. Many will have hardships.

I agree with this. Which is why it was interesting to me a short while back when there was a thread about drought, and some posters believed that Cali "squawks" too much about its drought.

Well they must not have seen the news or all the pictures coming from there showing the parched, crumbling ground. It's horrible.

I don't think there'll be a shortage of coffee since it's also grown in Mexico, Africa, Asia & middle-eastern countries.

I mostly gave up coffee maybe 7 or 8 months ago (I will have the very occasional cup on a Saturday or Sunday morning) and I NEVER EVER in my wildest dreams thought I could do it.

There are many things we think we can't live without that we can.

Price of beef is on it's way up. Cattlemen in the West have been reducing or selling off their herds due to the drought. If there's no grass due to lack of rain, they have to feed hay and that's too expensive. If you have a big freezer buy beef now!

I must have missed that one.

I'm betting they'll squawk when their grocery bills go up... most of America's produce comes from California. Some people just don't think things through.

There always has been and always will be an "excuse" for prices going up. Too dry/too wet/too cold/too hot, never just right.

I remember when peanuts jumped sky high back in, I believe the 1970's-80's because of no rain. Funny when it was too wet the prices continued to go up and up and up.

To me the real reason is it costs a business more to operate than in past years/decades. Regulated up the ca-zoo on everything, much of what means little to nothing for most business, but it costs them more money and who ends up paying? Yep, you got it!

The climate has been changing all my 74 years and I don't look for it to change any time soon, at least in the years I have left. Might as well blame it on something when no factual reason(s)can be found, but facts at times can be created, can't they ?????

I'm into chai tea now. And I'll switch to oat drink, which I actually have already switched to because I like it better than almond drink. I drink coffee but I'm not addicted like I once was so that may have to go.
