Suspicious reviews

I really wonder about these reviews that pop up when there is a tsv. Why does it seem like all of the reviews for a tsv (on the day that it is a tsv) are posted either that very day that it is a tsv or the day before. And, they are of course 5 stars! Also the title is usually "Love it!" And it's usually just a couple of reviews but again, 5 stars. Just seems odd to me

Me too.

When I've posted something as lousy, it is quickly buried by around 5-6 positive 'love it' reviews. How can people 'love' objects? They don't and ever won't love them back.

Right. What I find strange is the timing of these reviews. And they are most of the time 5 stars

I wish they would do what they do at HSN. You cannot write a review unless you have bought the product. They really need to do that here. Of course that would not exempt employees at the Q putting in fake reviews if they wanted to.

Right, there needs to be some verification that you even OWN the item....

Otherwise, how can ANY of the reviews be trusted?

That's a good system. QVC needs to adopt it, but I still believe there are shills posting reviews on products and on the forums.

Well, you can always tell when the product isn't a good one at all when they never show the old, "Customer Top Rated" logo when presenting a specific product. That certainly tells alot.

I just noticed on the new Bare Minerals liquid foundation reviews many people reviewed it who hadn't even tried it yet and said so. Some would give it 5 star reviews because they were happy they had a liquid and some did one star reviews because they were mad with the direction the company was going. I was shocked. That should not be allowed at all.

That's a good system. QVC needs to adopt it, but I still believe there are shills posting reviews on products and on the forums.

I agree dBd and stiil8, I have noticed amazon puts a verified owner next to reviews now.

It sure does. They reviewed it based solely on how they felt about Bare Minerals releasing a new liquid foundation, not about the foundation at all. I was shocked those reviews made it on there because I know in the past I have had to reword reviews several times before they were allowed on. Here, they were admitting to not trying it.

I have to say that recent reviews and 5 star reviews are not, in and of themselves suspicious. QVC will, of course, only show the 5 star reviews (why would they show anything else?). They will also show recent reviews for a couple of reasons. With some items (particularly TSVs and newer items), the airing itself will serve as an impetus for people who own the item to review it; therefore, many same-day reviews are understandable. Additionally, with items that have been sold for a while, if QVC were to show older reviews, I am sure we would hear shouting from people claiming the product has changed and is no longer as good (e.g. Temp-tations).

That being said, I do agree with a number of posters who complain about reviews by people who do not even own the item. I agree that QVC should be like HSN in that one should actually have purchased the item and own it for a period of time before it can be reviewed. Without this system, the reviews are much less effective or helpful.

I had a Travelon bag and the zipper broke the first time I used it. I called Q - they didn't care. I called Travelon - they didn't care either. Tough for me. So, I went and left a bad review. It never posted.

On the recent Carolyn Pollack TSV, a lot of people ordered it weeks before it was presented got it and reviewed it. I was one of them.. Have you noticed the new question posed on the review page..."Are you familiar with the product?" I don't think a question worded like that is going to help much.

KYToby you didn't understand my post. I'm not talking about reviews they read on air. I'm talking about reviews for a tsv on line period, that are suddenly appearing right before or on the day it becomes a tsv that are five stars across the board.

Some QVC customer pay for that weekly magazines and it offers a pre buy on some tsv's.

But I also agree about the 'shills.'
