It was a dud.

Part of it's clearly me, but I've found the last several to be duds... Vancouver's were't great, but not this boring. England's were dreadfully boring, and this one was largely a snooze too, though the opening and closing were clearly a notch above England and, among other dreary vignettes, that dreadfully boring ode to their national health care system... Again, some of it's me, some of it's the host nation's version of things and a the biggest factor is how NBC has programmed them.

I did. It was okay. I probably would have liked it more if they didn't keep yapping over what was happening, and cutting away every five minutes.

Most of it. Considering how they started out with the news of the accommodations, which sorta died down, or at least we didn't hear about it as much. AND that no terrorist attack and or deaths occurred because of them . . . that was a relief as the threat level was pretty high and many chose not to have their families attend. All in all, a good event. I watched quite a variety of the events and competitions. Probably 30 hours worth, guesstimate.

I didn't watch. I planned to but I didn't. I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. I knew the commentators would blab blab blab over everything and cut away to more....curling or hockey or whatever.

No, I found the coverage to be dull and badly presented during the whole olympics.

By the time all was said and done I was convinced the athletes were taking a back seat to Putan's back patting and the cutesy NBC crew. Very sad in my opinion

For the first time, I didn't watch any of the Olympics. I heard from someone that it was very heavy on the commercials, along with complaints that they had to sit through an hour or so of "filler" before they actually got to the events.

No thanks; I didn't watch and I don't feel like I missed anything. And evidently I'm not the only one. This year's ratings were the lowest ever.

The daily coverage by NBC on NBCSN was very good. Knowledgable commentators: (Al Trautwig/cross country skiing and Biathlon; Tara and Johnny Figure skating; and those covering Bobsled, luge, etc. Long presentations of singular events without multiple interruptions. You could actually follow the events and watch many athletes you never heard of or saw otherwise. Many of these presentations were devoid of the rah/rah Go USA jingoism of the evening snippets. Much more balanced.

That said, the evening shows on NBC were terrible starting with the Opening Ceremonies and Matt Lauer and ending with Al Michaels and Chris Collingsworth (who I LOVE on Sunday Night Football). Horrid. A mash-up of one or two athletes in one event with a quick cut to another event and then 15 to 20 minute filler pieces on subjects that had nothing to do with the current competition (ParaOlympic swimmer and 2011 Hockey plane crash). All with way too many advertisements!

If it hadn't been for the daily LIVE presentations, this would have been a complete bust.

I liked the closing ceremony very much. The coverage didn't go on and on and Vladimir Posner, the Russian journalist, was a welcome addition as he provided knowledgeable commentary so the presentation made sense. It was obvious the two Americans knew nothing at all about Russia!

All in all, a good event. I watched quite a variety of the events and competitions. I thought overall, Russia did a good job in spite of the bumpy start. I preferred the summer games in London 2 years ago, so watched more of those events, but this is probably the most I've watched any winter games. Like you, I am so happy and relieved that there were no bombings or terrorist activities, it must have been so nerve-racking for all the athletes and the families that attended to wonder if it would be safe. As for the closing ceremonies, I was impressed with those computer graphics that were used, and the Russian ballet performances. I did appreciate their humor and tribute to the one Olympic ring that didn't function during the opening ceremonies.

It will be interesting to hear more of the stories and experiences by the athletes once they are home and have a chance to settle back in. Sochi looks like a beautiful place, and now that they have all these facilities in place, hopefully the world will visit there, and it will become a location for more sporting events. I learned a lot from the stories and the coverage.

I agree the chattering of the NBC announcers was extremely annoying. Then to trot out the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding was too much. But what really kills the Olympics for me was the edits. watch part of skating then skiing then back to skating. The closing ceremony was the same with chattering, editing.
