you need to install security patches to prevent security breaches. A hacker can access your phone or ipad if you are using a public wi fi service. On your iphone and or ipad go to general and look for updates. This is pretty serious.

My Galaxy S3 alerts me when an update is ready to download for my anti virus software and I was under the impression the same is true for the iphone and the ipad.

From Apple: "Impact: An attacker with a privileged network position may capture or modify data in sessions protected by SSL/TLS. This security update provides a fix for SSL connection verification. You can read about it by doing an Internet search, but here’s one article explaining the issue: Apple Issues Patch for Security Risk in iOS7 (http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2014/02/22/apple-issues-patch-for-security-risk-in-ios7/)

To find and install the patch, go to Settings--->General--->Software Update.

(iOS 7.1 is expected to roll out next month, complete with further bug fixes.)"

My husband has an Ipad through his work and I'm sure his IT Dept took care of it. They are pretty much on the ball.

It is only fixed if he was made aware of the problem. It is manually updated.

Why would you not install issued updates for any reason?? And what do hotspots have to do with anything. You don't utilize a cell phone via Wifi hotspot.

Hi, SurvivedOne! Some people ignore the update notifications for one reason or another. And iPhones can and do use WIFI.

It does. The update is because it it is possible that you may be if you are usingt a hot spot. The update fixes it. Jeesh!

Hi, sidsmom! In general, companies roll out notifications to devices over a period of time instead of all at once. Among other things, it avoids having too many users attempting downloads all at the same time, slowing down the update process (or in some cases halting the update process).
