Hot Pockets Recalled Over 'Diseased' Meat As Rancho Feeding Corp. recalls almost 9M pounds of meat

As if Hot Pockets weren't questionable enough, a bunch of them are being recalled because they might contain diseased meat. Nestlé is recalling certain batches of the Philly Steak & Cheese flavor as well as the Croissant Crust Philly Steak & Cheese flavor, KTLA reports, because those batches may contain meat that was recalled by the California-based Rancho Feeding Corp. earlier this month. Almost 9 million pounds of meat are involved in that recall.

The USDA says Rancho "processed diseased and unsound animals and carried out these activities without the benefit or full benefit of federal inspections." No illnesses have so far been reported, but KATU reports that the meat went out to almost 1,000 retailers, including some "fine meat markets." If you have any of the affected Hot Pockets, you can return them to the store for a refund or call Nestlé at (800) 392-4057.

Thanks for the post, Wild Cherry! That kind of info is often missed by people. I'll be passing the info on to my family. Regarding Hot Pockets, lots of people with kids eat them from time to time. Questionable? No more than fast food, most restaurant food (I don't care how "fine" the restaurant is), and frozen/prepared food found in the grocery store of ALL kinds. If you are so concerned about something like an occasional Hot Pocket, you'd best go to farmer's markets to buy all fresh produce and make all of your food from scratch including bread, juices, all entrees, etc. like people did 200 years ago. Otherwise, MOST of your food is questionable in some way.

Not eating meat is another story. I don't eat meat because I don't like what happens in the meat industry. I won't judge others for doing so, though. It's like religion - everyone has their own beliefs and lives the life they feel best to live.

I was in shop rite and a father with a little girl was buying these things like they were going out of style. Yucky .... Made my skin crawl to see how much the father was buying and the child was picking out her favorite kinds. sickening!

Do you get sick at the sight of people ordering pizza at the local pizza place? Do you order pizza or go to the local chain restaurants? I've worked in both kinds of places. It's amazing what happens behind closed doors.

Heaven only knows what truly goes into processed foods. And yeah, 99% of the time I do cook from scratch. But that's just me.

I've only had them a few times, and it's always been the (meatless) cheese pizza light variety.

I don't see anything different with that compared to other kinds of frozen foods - pizza, pot pies, burritos, etc.

I've made the same kind of points, Lion. Funny how no one wants to address it. I think people easily ignore that which they prefer not to exist and criticize that which they don't care for anyway. Mystery meat? Parts? I guess we recognize it in some things but choose not to see it in others. If it makes people feel better, so be it.

Well now you have. The meat Nestle uses in certain Hot Pockets has been recalled - the meat was coming from diseased animals. It's all over the news. Not to mention in the opening post. Seems Nestle hasn't been too diligent watching their supplier.

As far as comments about Hot Pockets, look up their nutrition data. Calories, fat, sodium, carbs - bon appetit!
