We have a secret arrangement with our church food pantry. Whenever the director runs low in any particular items, she lets us know and we buy those. We also give seasonal foods for the holidays. We prefer our donations to be strictly anonymous.

I think this a good way to let other know what we do without anyone actually knowing who we are. After all we don't do good deeds to be recognized. I do them for the warm fuzzy feeling I get.

I pick up a man who is blind and take him to church every Sunday.

I know when to bite my tongue- does that count?

Doing something seemingly simple for someone can mean the world to them. Like taking that man to church!

We help out our neighbors when we can- shovel the drive for the pregnant woman when her hubby is away, check up on the elderly ones, those kind of things.

My two daughters my husband and I... and across from our table was a Indian family with a little girl about 8 months old of so. The mother was feeding her what looked like big chunks of food too quickly. The baby started to cough and cry. I went back to my meal when a moment later I looked up and saw the baby turning beet red she was gagging. The wife said something to her husband and he stood up and said can anyone help us please! I knew CPR but, never used it on anyone before.... No one would get up to help this family .. I had to try to help that baby. I walked over to the couple and took the baby out of the baby seat and started giving her CPR a man who worked in the restaurant came over and gave compressions while I breathed into the babies mouth after a few minutes the baby started crying and she began to pink up.. Then threw up the food she ate and then the paramedics came and took over. Steve called [My DH called them after I walked over to the couple.] The husband came over and thanked me for what I done.. I said your welcome I was glad to help. I was quite amazed and sad that in a crowded restaurant no one would get up to help or call 911 beside my husband. I was brought up to believe we are here on earth to help others. This is a wonderful thread O/P !

I don't consider things I do for other people or animals as good deeds. For me it is doing what I feel at certain times, "is the right thing to do at that time". Sure I could mention a whole lot of things that for some my fall under the "good deed" category, but for me they are just who I am and what I do.

Interesting thread for sure.

Do you bake cookies or cake and take it to your Dr's office? Have you ever given a meal to a homeless person. these are all things that I perceive to be out of the norm of everyday good deeds.

I thank God for these opportunities and the strength to help when I can but seldom mention any of this to others, here is an exception. Homeless people (often vets) frequently come into the fast food places and here is an opportunity to buy them a meal and actually know where the money is going. Good example for my grandchildren as well. And in the end, we always receive the greatest blessing even though it should not be done for that reason.. Who knows but that an actual angel may have helped us sometime.

Love your posts, folks. Thanks for sharing.

I'm not one for bragging about helping others. That makes me feel kind of bad and uncomfortable.

But I do have to say that I don't do it for me, or how it would make me feel. I do it to help somebody ELSE. I think when you do these things with that in mind, and go outside yourself, you don't have the need to tell the world about all the good things you do. Anyway, I cannot apply this to anybody else. It's just my thinking for what feels comfortable for me.

That is my thoughts on it, too, Chickenbutt. As the scriptures remind me: "Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing". I may share with personal friends and family, only so as to explain where I am at the time. (Some volunteering can be risky.) Or as a way of explaining why I'm unavailable for other things, but boasting goes against my beliefs as a Christian. It is enough to say, "Faith without works is dead". I try to do as many of those things that Christ taught as possible, in His name, and NOT for rewards or praise, but for the purpose of helping to meet the needs of others.

Hi Golfcartrider: Thank you so much for your encouagement about trying to set examples for the grandchildren. I'm sure most of us try but there are times it all seems discouraging. We just have to persevere and leave the outcome to God who is always faithful.

Q-Anu: I think Paul was saying in the book of James("Faith Without Works is Dead") that when one is a Christian the desire to serve others should be a natural thing.

I used to like to minister in a nursing home but these days they are much more strick about this. Used to enjoy watching children during the church service; hey, just reminded myself they were looking for someone in a recent bulletin, how about that?

I am so surprised with the number of negative post's on this. I did not mean the thread to be a place to brag about the things we have done for other people. I for one am getting ideas on things I can do from some of the poster's.

If you feel uncomfortable about letting people know that you are a good person and do good things in this world then please don't post here.

I want this to be a positive thread. Thank You to ALL that have shared your good deeds and as I stated, no one knows who we are so it is NOT bragging.

Yes, I agree, HiLo--"fruits of the Spirit" will manifest, and it's good to practice these principles rather one is "feeling it" from the Spirit, or not, in order to exercise toward fullness. I also know of many who do not share our faith, yet they practice similar principles of unselfish charity. I did not mean to derail the thread. I was only explaining to the OP why it is, in my case, that I don't offer more details. (Against my religious beliefs.) She may receive more replies if she just asks for random ideas, rather than personal accounts.

On 2/22/2014 Q-Anu said:
That is my thoughts on it, too, Chickenbutt. As the scriptures remind me: "Don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing". I may share with personal friends and family, only so as to explain where I am at the time. (Some volunteering can be risky.) Or as a way of explaining why I'm unavailable for other things, but boasting goes against my beliefs as a Christian. It is enough to say, "Faith without works is dead". I try to do as many of those things that Christ taught as possible, in His name, and NOT for rewards or praise, but for the purpose of helping to meet the needs of others.

Q-Anu I respect your thoughts on this but I do not agree. I love reading the about the good things people do. It makes me realize there is good in this upside down world.

If you do not agree with doing this then please do not read and please do not post negative thoughts.
