Captain Phillips (spoilers)

DH and I finally watched Captain Phillips when we were snowed in over the weekend. I love and I mean love this movie. The acting was top of the line and the movie is a sit on the edge of your seat kind of movie.

This surprised me. I cried and I don't mean just tears running down my face like when I watch a romantic or sad type movie. I was crying so bad I was out right sobbing and saying OMG that poor man over and over. When he was writing a message, and when he was saying messages over the speaker so his family would hear it in case he didn't make it. That got to me!

I cannot imagine what he felt like going through that knowing he could be dead at any moment and never see his family again. Then when the words rolled and it said he went back out on the ship in 2010. Well I would have retired after going through what he did! What an inspirational and courageous man he is!

Also it got me mad too, how ships are taking supplies to help people and for people to function in other countries and these pirates attack them! Im not a gun person but its my opinion that they should have guns on those ships. Because them spraying water on those pirates is worthless and they need real protection.

Last but not least a BIG shout out to our service men and women who protect this country, and especially the Navy Seals who jump in and help under bad circumstances such as the one in this true story.

Well, I have now highly recommended this movie to others since watching it.

Tom Hanks deserves an Oscar for that role. As does the young man who played the lead pirate.

I saw it twice. It was outstanding, wasn't it? I felt that the last scene was just so powerful. The man who played the lead pirate won Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTA Awards over the weekend.

I don't usually go for these types of movies but this one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time....I wanted to stand up and clap when it was over.

I read that the director of the film refused to let Hanks meet the lead pirate until the day of filming. He wanted REAL fear to be on Hanks' face and IMO, that was a good decision. You could just feel the fear and tension during those scenes. I loved the movie too and my eyes filled up at the end. Very powerful.

I just saw this movie last wed. I loved it! At the end, I felt like I was traumatized with him and in shock. Thats the great acting of Tom Hanks. I love him.

It amazes me how 4 skinny guys on a bad speed boat can just hijack your ginormous ship. I dont get it. These ships should have some kind of hunting type gun with a scope so you can shoot them from far.

You hit the nail on the head with this. My husband said something very similar. Those small speed boats were wooden. All the crew or captain needed to do was fire shots and sink them. End of conflict. Certainly a lot cheaper for the taxpayer who had to shell out vast sums of money to bring out the Navy as well as the Special Seal Unit.

Isn't Hanks great? I was sad when the innocent young man from the village was shot. Sure, he was with the rest of the guys, but there was something about him. He wanted to help Capt. Phillips and give him water, etc. I think it bothered Phillips that the kid was killed, too. Do they get to carry weapons now? It was explained to me that they couldn't, at one time, carry weapons on the ship. Not sure if this was true.

Monument Men was good, too
