Why I Love Elvis

I think he was a fresh breath of air way back then, a tall drink of water, had some moves that won't don't, some fantastic songs that no other artist could perform as well as he could.

He had an enormous stage presence, which in my opinion, made him a super star.

Many, many other artists throughout the years, have said as much, so I don't think it's "just me".

Did I mention he had an extensive vocal range, coupled with a love of many different genres of music?

Did I mention he was handsome?

He was another one where his groupies and friends would never deny him anything. In the end it did him in. I too like Elvis, just wish he would have loved his life more than he did. I always wonder what he would be like today if he was still alive.

Elvis will always be ""the King"" in my eyes. I will never forget listening to the radio one day and they broke in with the reports of his death. I was stunned. I played his Blue Album for days afterward...with tears in my eyes. I wanted to BE Priscilla and couldn't believe she had dumped him for her Karate instructor.

I "fell in love with him" when I was about 13 years old and never got over it! I don't think some people really appreciated his voice-they were too busy harping about his "moves". He was an outstanding entertainer-saw him in concert when he was at his peak and again about 3 months before his death. I couldn't believe how he had changed, you could tell he was having a hard time trying to keep up the image-even his voice had changed. I always thought someone should have loved him enough to step in and help him before it was too late-he might still be here today. I think he would have been a star for a long, long time!

I'm here to join you all because I love Elvis, too.

I got fortunate, being a west coast adjacent girl, to go to Graceland several years ago. I must have taken a zillion pictures! Also, his grave, as well as his brother's and parents' graves, are there and I took some time to reflect.

The most surprising thing for me about Graceland - this MANSION - was that it's really not all that big. But I got to tour it all and the grounds surrounding it. I was so happy to have that opportunity.

As for hotness - I still drool over '68 Comeback Special Elvis. He was so very hot in that leather suit. I actually have a framed picture of him from that show. That was his very hottest, for me.

His voice - wow! He sure did have some amazing range. I have numerous favorites but it might surprise some to hear/read me say that, although I'm 100% totally NON-religious, his 'How Great Thou Art' is stunning. That song really shows what his voice can do.

You're so right about "How Great Thou Art". I loved his gospel music. When my mother passed away, "Amazing Grace" was sung at her service. I played his version of that for days afterward.

I don't know if anybody is familiar with this, or even cares, but several years ago Lisa Marie did a piece with 'In The Ghetto' where she put her voice with his so it's like a duet (on the lines of the Natalie Cole/Nat King Cole one from some time back).

It is so beautiful. It always makes me cry. I had the video on my iTunes also, but I keep the song on my iPod and it's a good one for when I want to cry. I also have the Elvis-only version of the song but this one is my favorite version.

Admittedly I was not a fan when I was younger (I was in the age of the Beatles from little on up as well as all the rocker type bands). However I have come to appreciate Elvis the past years and I agree he was very good looking and had an amazing voice.

Liked and still like his music. My preference has always been his Southern Gospel Music, which many didn't(don't)have a clue that was his passion in music. Would never go so far as to say I "love" anyone I do not know personally.

Elvis inspired and entertained millions over the years of his life and still carries a major title by just the mention of his name, Elvis. He dearly loved his mother and I don't know that he ever completely recovered from her death.

Saw him 4 times live in concert in our city including the live concert he gave here just a few days before he died. I missed 1 of his concerts here because I was in the hospital having back surgery. Each passing year I saw him his voice grew stronger. While the last concert I saw him he did not look good at all, but his voice was more powerful than I ever remember hearing and seeing him at previous live concerts.

I have every Southern Gospel Vinyl Record he made public and I also have most of his live concerts on LaserDisc and also DVD. If he made it public I probably have the vinly version or a CD or DVD of it. One of a kind in my opinion and I also thank him for including J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet as part of his shows. J.D. and his Southern Gospel music also fills many of my CD/DVD cases.

I'll bet any of those that toured with Elvis have a lot of stories they could tell. I would be a very captive audience to as many as they would tell me.

J.D. said in several of his songs "I am the only Bass singer that has a back-up Bass singer", and if you are familiar with his voice you know he recorded the lowest bass note sang(sung). Not 100% sure he still holds that record but I can tell you with the music systems I have and when I play his solo music when he sings in his lowest octaves? I can even feel the concrete basement floor vibrate when I up the sub-woofer output a bit during those solo's.

Love his music. I can still remember my grandmother watching his concert in Hawaii. Unfortunately, like many of the other greats, he was a drug addict and his life ended because of his addiction.

I was just about to mention Aloha from Hawaii done via satellite in 1973. It was amazing.

It's too bad that he thought he needed all of those prescription drugs. I don't think anyone could've helped him, as it seems some of them tried and lost their jobs for it. (according to what I've read)

I think he might still be singing if he was still around.

Elvis is a name that appears to be pretty stable, even though he's been gone for quite awhile.
