I think it's become a catch-all category and folding so many disorders and non-disorders under this category isn't serving anyone particularly well.

Well, I have not read the book, but the title is pretty clear.

I would not say that it does not exist, but I would venture to say that it may be over diagnosed.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia are serious problems that do exist and is widely talked about. With these to ailments, a Doctor has to treat the symptoms just like in Lupus - no cure there either.

So, I guess the only treatment for the symptoms would be - sleeping pills, anti-depressants, pain meds., etc.... No thanks - I don't think I'll have any of that......

According to the Mayo Clinic site, this "affliction" affects women more than men. I wonder why that is.....

It does exist, but it is overdiagnosed and some of the medications to treat are horrendously inappropriate, i.e., ant-psychotics. I believe this doctor does imagery and mapping of the brain/MRI to detect issues. A diagnosis of add/adhd should be thorough and done by a multidisciplinary team - neurologist, psychiatrist, teacher, social worker, and parents.
