On 2/18/2014 SurvivedOne said:
I look at things in an entirely different way. Yes, most of us are experiencing a particulary eventful winter. There are millions of people who have very long commutes to and from work and wind up spending several hours daily commuting when the weather is really bad. I am grateful I don't have that commute. People that do probably wish they could experience "cabin fever". Winter is a season, seasons come and go. Soon enough people will be complaining how hot, how humid it is. I don't at all wish my life away. Winter is beautiful. And if you are posting here you have the internet which means a roof over your head. Gratitude. Just poke your head out the door and take in your surroundings. Have people over to your house. Go out somewhere, anywhere when it is not snowing. Visit friends, people who are less fortunate. Take an online class. Winter is also THE best time to do things in your home, your environment to freshen things up. Doesn't cost a thing. There are tons of things to do to make yourself happy. Just need, want the desire to do so. Noone is going to do it for you.

Boy, you said everything I have been thinking. Gratitude is right. I try to remember to be thankful as God commands us in these situations; at least most of us have a good warm home.and food on the shelves. Not so for the people who have been killed or suffered in these storms. Before long it will be "too hot to go outdoors". I have been trying to brush up on delayed notes to my friends who have been sick or lost loved ones. How about calling those we know who are lonely and are homebound all the time? Your comments here have been like a breath of fresh air Surviveone; my kind of gal..

Hi Bobbisue. Yes, cabin fever crazy. We were supposed to have 48 degrees and sunshine this weekend. The entire city was excited. Didn't happen. So disappointing. Spring will come - slowly. What's the George Harrison song -- Here Comes the Sun -- "...it's been a long, cold, lonely winter..."

Bobbisue - Yes, this is getting old. We are supposed to have freezing rain tomorrow, sleet and then 2-4 inches of snow. But supposed to be 40 later in the week. There is so much snow everywhere it will take lots of time to all melt.

But as bad as this is, I would not be happy in Fl. as I dislike the hot weather more. My brother moved to Fl. 18 yrs. ago and is moving back to Ohio this spring.

My soon-to-be 92-year-old mother is suffering fom big-time cabin fever. She is unsteady on her feet and fears walking to her condo's mailbox in front of her house, so she stays home. I begged her to call her next door neighbors to ask them to get her mail but she's too proud. Instead, she drives out of her driveway to her mailbox, hoping to be be able to reach her mail. She refuses to call the supermarket that delivers. Rather, she is going through her freezer to heat up foods she doesn't want. I will spend a week with her next month, once we're out of snow danger, and figure out how she can stay in her condo, eat properly, and stay safe. She has the money to bring in help but is too cheap, yet it's at the point where she must acknowledge her safety issues. I have my work cut out for me.

I don't have cabin fever issues, mainly because West Virginia winters are generally 4 long, hard months anyway, and it just is what it is. I enjoy staying home anyway, and never tire of being home; whereas my husband hates to stay home, and must get out to see and talk to people at least a few times a week.

Nope! I've been forced into staying in from many things over the years and since I love "our heaven", have never felt "boxed in/cabin fever". When my body doesn't work well I use my mind thus no monotony, when my mind doesn't work well I use put my body through more challenging workouts.

Someone reminded me tonight that spring begins in 31 days!!! But, yeah, I have cabin fever too. More snow is on its way which will start around 10 pm and go through 10 am on Tuesday, with up to 6 inches predicted. It's 19 * right now and the air is really raw so my bones tell me snow is on its way. We already have more snow than we need and many of the streets are still not good so I hope the snow bypasses us but I doubt it will.

Just stay warm and safe. Turn on the Olympics and enjoy the skating, skiing, etc. that's on tonight.

No cabin fever for me because I don't have the luxury of staying indoors when it snows. Yes, of course, I stay in when the snow is coming down heavily and the forecast is for serious snow fall. But once the roads are clear and public transportation is up and running, it's off to work for me. Even as I write this, I look out my window and it's snowing. Snowed yesterday. Snowed the day before too. But all this snow has put a crimp in our socializing. I don't even remember the last time we went out for an evening, I think it was shortly after Christmas.
