I love it ~ I hate it

The human condition is a strange one, isn't it?

Someone posts how they love something...hoping to hear from others who love it, but what they get is a bunch of people stating how they hate it.

Why?

We're taught as children that if you don't have anything nice to say...remain silent, but we can't help ourselves.

It's crazy.

People can help themselves, it's that being right overrides common courtesy.

It's excused by saying it's an opinion and they have a right to express it. IMO it's rude and done to try to make others feel inferior while making themselves feel superior.

In addition, it's also something too easily expressed. No one has to love or hate anything - it's okay to not have an opinion about anything and emotions (like love or hate) don't need to apply.

I read these boards to get opinions on things. If someone says they love a certain face cream and everyone followed suit, I'd think this was the best thing ever and I'd buy it. If one person says it made them break out, I wouldn't buy it because I'm acne prone.

We need all views, not just the rosy ones.

The rudeness is rampart on the Internet but rare in the real world. What's most important is believing in your own opinion to allow differences of opinion and to keep an open mind. But strangers opinions mean little ...we don't need validation from people if we really believe in something..

radimage, yeah I see what you're saying. Although there's nothing wrong with opposing views, often times it's the way those views are stated that make it sound hurtful and rude (see post #5 for example). Nah.... that was straight up rude.

But I understand what you're saying. On the other hand, there's no reason to get upset just because others may not share their point of view or like the handbag that so-and-so posted a pic of because they thought it was adorable. I know, I know, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. But, that person initiated the discussion by posting the pic and asking for opinions. Some people don't have good manners, or are having a bad day, whatever. But I guess my point is, if you're not prepared for all types of responses, then just don't put it out there in the first place. It's not worth getting upset over.

Asking for opinions you get what you get, but sometimes people are just happy about a find and want to share it, they don't really want to know that you think their wonderful find is ugly as sin.....this has stuck in my mind about the poster a few yrs ago who found a great deal on some pretty candy bowls for her teachers gifts, oh my goodness,I don't think she even asked for opinions, but boy did she get them.

If we are talking about things (e.g. handbags, shoes, beauty products, food, etc.), then you shouldn't take it personally if someone dislikes what you like.

Well yeah, but what if someone says "I am so excited I found a beautiful bag I have been looking for, for a long time, so happy"......do people really have to say if they think it's a butt ugly bag, what is the point ?
