Top Chef Finale (spoiler alert)

I'm not going to post the winners name but put spoiler in the headline just in case someone else does post the winner in this thread. The reason for my post is to simply express my disappointment in who ultimately won. I was so hoping for the other person and have been from very early in the season. Oh well, it isn't the end of the world

The judges should be ashamed of themselves for their decision. However, that said I think the decision was more gender oriented that talent oriented so the winner was more or less preordained (again).

I'm with you, OP. It seemed to me that Tom Colicchio made up his mind who he wanted to win and that was that. I can't fathom a Top Chef who can't seem to find the salt shaker or who shouts at the wait staff during service, obviously making some of the diners uncomfortable. Emeril, Hugh, and Padma didn't seem impressed, either.

I was disappointed in the decision, too. That person was my least favorite of the final 4. I know not everyone agrees, but I think they should factor in overall performance for the run of the show when they make the final choice.

I think they should do some type of points system all season long to determine the final winner, in which case Shirley should have won. But the way they do it now, the way the rules stand, the winner had the better meal on the final show, and that's why he/she won.

Many other people have had bad dishes and have been saved by quick fire immunity. I don't get why THIS time, everyone expected him to fall on the sword. It isn't fair. He was safe, that's how the game is played. Stephanie doesn't hold it against him, why does everyone else?

It was because it was a team challenge and his dish caused their team to be in the bottom and if I'm not mistaken the blonde girl tried to give him input on that dish and he blew her off like he was the big know it all. It wasn't just that he caused them to lose it was the way he caused them to lose as well...with his attitude. That was the part that was totally unfair. I don't think they should have team challenges when people are getting immunity.

I agree that they shouldn't have team challenges, but I feel badly that people fault him with her leaving. Would you have quit? I wouldn't have.

No, I wouldn't have given up my spot. But he was obnoxious on that challenge as usual and if he would have listened to her their team might have one . That's why many people are unhappy about that particular loss and blame him.

Ordinarily in a regular challenge if someone has immunity and would have lost, at least the one who DOES go home was probably second worst. In this case the blonde girl had a good dish and would not have been in the bottom if it wouldn't have been for the team challenge.

I don't think anyone should have immunity, but since he did, I think he should have at least OFFERED to go home instead of Stephanie since he definitely had the worst dish.

I personally could not have stayed knowing my dish was the worst out of everyone.

I agree with dooBdoo about the overall performance, but there's no drama in that.

Well - I was angry when I read the first post, but I watched it anyways. I sped through it - did they even discuss how he treated the wait staff? I don't care how good the food may be (and frankly, it is iffy if he could maintain his peak), but if management is yelling and insulting staff in front of the customers, I would not want to go back. What a jerk. He should have been penalized for that - the entire experience should be considered like in restaurant wars.

Oh - and as much as I hate it - immunity is there for a reason. I don't like it in team challenges when the team is so small - he could have deliberately done a bad job to get tough competition eliminated. It's a strategy too - not saying he did that, I think he just did a horrible job in the challenge.

Ahhh. I never thought of that. Wouldn't put it past him. He was always such a whiner and had a bad temper to boot.

I liked both of them as chefs and thought they were the two best candidates overall based on their cooking talent and technical ability. I liked Shirley but I think she relied a lot on food that she had previously made and too much on a limited style of food. Just like Carlos in a way. Nina won so many challenges through the season so I was hoping she would win. Maybe there was a bit of a backlash against the female after Kristen (sp?) won last year. I did not think that she should have won. It was hard to watch the episode when Stefanie (sp?) was eliminated but I don't think she would have gone much further and Nick played by the rules of the competition. I thought the final judgement was confusing and I really wasn't sure who would win after listening to the judges. Thankfully Nina just won Fan Favorite so that's a bit of retribution. I don't know how any of them can handle the stress of the many weeks of competition. On to the Olympics.

Aside from the fact that I can't stand the winner - the loser was robbed! She consistently won challenges and showed a good attitude while her opponent lost many challenges and showed a poor attitude in general. She really deserved to win!!!! I am convinced that Tom has the final say on who wins any challenge. I guess he likes Top Chefs with bad attitudes and who do not CONSISTENTLY cook good food!
