Why do people post every little thing on Facebook?

I love Facebook. I really do, but I have a friend I really like but she post EVERYTHING she does on Facebook. Every weekend she goes out to eat and every weekend she post what she orders and the sign of the place she is at. I think the clincher was tonight she posted what she bought at Costco in her cart and for better viewing on her kitchen counter. Nothing special just food. I would love for Dr. Phil to evaluate this behavior.

She must think her friends are interested in seeing what she does, where she goes and her food choices. I don't use Facebook, so I don't get it.

I think it has become verrry strange. I don't need to see a slice of pizza and a diet coke. If she is just having fun that's fine. I think in my non doctors degree it is a severe sign of something sad going on.

That drives me nuts too. As do the ones that post their nightly dinner photos (translation: look at what a good wife and mother I am) or birthday and/or christmas haul (translation: look at all my expensive stuff - I am soooo adored).

I know someone who frequently eats out and posts a picture of her plate and her DH's on her FB page.

One of my friends has two young sons and posts multiple pics of each of her sons EVERY SINGLE DAY. Yes they are cute but we don't need an hourly update of her kids, if you know what I mean.

Before Facebook, some people used to do the same thing on messageboards. When I first posted here, there was a lady who'd post every detail of her day, even the mundane stuff.

I've heard this discussed quite a few times by the psych crowd, and it seems that a lot of people think that everything they do and say is of interest. A big ego thing I suppose.

It's sad, but I'll admit that I've lost friendships because I won't enter their FB world. I use the site to follow stores and various groups, and that's it. Since I know that every bit of it, even keystrokes you wiped out, is monitored, I'd rather not put much of myself out there.

I have a couple of friends like this too...one of them posts everything..where she bought gas, ate lunch, went shopping, got home. About the only thing she doesn't post is when she goes to the bathroom. LOL

And then...and then, she posts or shares things she subscribed to. Oye!

This person may not have to worry about it, but I think a lot of people still don't realize that whatever they put out there is out there forever.....so if they post something they regret later, too bad. And more and more employers are checking social media sites when making hiring decisions....you never know how they might interpret seemingly innocent things when looking at a person as a potential employee.
