CVS to Stop Selling Tabacco

As of Oct 1 no more Cigarettes can be purchased at CVS Pharmacies I always wonder why they were sold at a heath care store anyway I hope other followers suit

Nope not all. I do have a problem with them following a "politically correct" agenda and that is what this IS ALL ABOUT. You know and I know it.

So now will they start selling pot where allowed because someone thinks it is "harmless" (cough, cough)

I am an ex smoker and smoke does not bother me. I will also defend a person's right to smoke but I will also defend the right of CVS to make a corporate decision.

I think that each restaurant owner should be allowed to decide if they will have smoking in their establishment or not. People can decide where they want to dine.

I think CVS did a great thing and made a great statement.

Good for you for quitting smoking!! I have never smoked as I have always been an athlete playing sports, but I still think this is politically motivated.

Whatever the motivation I think it was a great decision. They are expected to lose 2 billion $$$$.

I recognize CVS's right to sell or not sell whatever products they choose to sell in their stores. After all, they are a private business and should sell whatever they think us best for their business. I see no reason to applause or censure - their future sales numbers will tell them if they made the right choice. I personally think it was the wrong one from a purely financial perspective, but they didn't ask for my advice. If I was a shareholder, I would be dumping their stock, however.

And I will defend MY right as a non smoker NOT to inhale secondhand smoke or be around it! Where are my rights? Huh? I don't want to inhale it every time I walk into a building where people don't abide by the 10+ feet away from a building rule nor out in public areas where I have to pass them.

HOW many people die from secondhand smoke that never smoked? How fair is that????

And how many smokers sue every tom duck and harry once they get cancer and turn it into a sob story about them even though they KNEW the dangers when they smoked and thought it was cool at the time??

BRAVO CVS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will shop there more knowing this information!

Just like pot, they can have designated stores to buy their drug(cigarettes) making it harder for children to get a hold( steal) them. I would like to see their access harder and less available!~

CVS Caremark is kicking the habit of selling tobacco products at its more than 7,600 drugstores nationwide.

The nation's second-largest drugstore chain says it will phase out cigarettes, cigars and chewing tobacco by Oct. 1 as it continues to focus more on health care.

CVS Caremark Corp. and other major drugstore chains have been adding clinics to their stores for several years. Their pharmacists deliver flu shots and other immunizations, and their clinics also have been expanding the care they deliver.

CVS CEO Larry Merlo says the company decided it can no longer sell cigarettes at places where it also provides health care.

The move will cost the Woonsocket, R.I., company about $2 billion in annual revenue. But CVS executives expect it to also help the health care business grow.
