Senility???

Went to Trader Joe's this morning to pick up a few things. I'm checking out and realize I don't have my purse??!!! Boy, did I feel stupid! The cashier assured me that it happens. People forget their wallets. But this is a first for me. Scary stuff for sure!!

Naw,

Now I would question the gentleman who took my cart (at Trader Joe's with my groceries), when my back was turned.

His cart was left, instead, with his groceries.

I found out he took my cart to the check-out, and bought what I had in there.

That was a first for me.

Don't feel stupid @kaydee50. I take the crown on forgetfulness!

Years ago (no chance of senility) I was in Petsmart getting things for my soon to come home rescue dog. I was all by myself and suddenly a tall blond lady appeared next to me. We talked. she was taking care of her mother, I had already been there. She stayed with me telling me what to purchase for my Jade. We later went to the cashier together; since my cart was loaded and she only had one thing in hand, I wanted her to go ahead of me. She declined. Ran up about $100 (give or take) bill when I realized my wallet was at home. I had taken it out of my pocketbook to call the rescue to find out when I could get my Jade. I asked the cashier to put my cart aside while I ran home (about ten minutes), but the lady had already given her card to the cashier. When asked for her phone number, so I could get in touch to pay her back, she said, no, I have plenty of money and you need yours as you're getting a new dog.

She refused to let me pay her back We hugged and she left the store. Went back many times, but never saw this woman again. She disappeared as suddenly as she had appeared! I call her my Angel Lady!

And by the way, when I went to pick-up Jade, there was a collection cup on the counter as they were trying to get enough money to pay for heart surgery for another rescue dog living there. I paid it forward. The rescue was surprised when I handed over a $75 check - I had already bought cookies for all the rescue dogs with me.

Guess some things are predetermined by the universe: forgetfulness it seems is one of them!

BUT nobody offered to pay for my $30 worth of groceries--LOL! Guess my "angel" was taking the day off!

My late Aunt always told the story of leaving her baby in a stroller at the local grocery store, didn realize she didnt have her until she got home !!!

LOL, that's funny, those days were long gone.

The look on his face at home would have been priceless even without the feminine hygiene products!!

I forgot my husband once.

He rarely grocery shops with me and he decided to tag along. After loading the groceries into the trunk he went and took the cart back to the store. Well, I was at the second stop light before I realized my husband wasn't in the car. I had done left without him.

You are not alone. I did that once. I often carry my handbag on my right shoulder and a shopping bag on my left; othertimes, just the one handbag. Well one day going out the door I mistakenly put the empty shopping bag on my right (wrong!) shoulder and out I went to the supermarket. Didn't realize until I got to check-out. Fortunately I wasn't buying much and the cashier held my purchases for me while I went home and grabbed my handbag. Felt like an utter idiot.

It happens to most of us at 1 time or another..

A couple of years ago..DH waits in the car while I grocery shop..I came out with a cart full..No DH... NO CAR! Had to call the local police after I walked the parking lot 3 times....This was before his mind got really bad....2 darling "little girls"(police officers)..called thheir SGT. and told him..he went to my house and found DH sitting in the driveway! He forgot me and had NO house keys..Those "lttle girls" loaded all my groceries in the patrol car and took me home and the SGT. waited for us to get there...They even brought my groceries into the house.. Guess they felt sorry for the 2 old buzzards!

Lesson learned..DH is not allowed to have car keys when he's waiting for me!..LOL

I did that once but chalked it up to grief (losing 6 family members in 3 years).

First, I'm not saying you have anything other than an instance of forgetfulness.

For me, it ended up being a sign. I was forgetting little things, got lost twice going to my sister's (she's lived there 30 years), etc, and started to worry. I was tested and diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I'm doing better now...on 2 meds.

It's really nice that new blood tests came out 3 or so years ago that can diagnose some types of dementia, including Alzheimer's.

DNA testing showed I have the Alzheimer's gene. It's weird because I knew 4 generations on both sides of my family and no one had any kind of dementia.

If anyone has concerns about something similar, ask to take the initial screening at your GP's office. If the score isn't where it should be, get a referral to a Demential Specialist - or find one on your own.

For me, I'd never start with a neurologist or even let only a neurologist treat me. They focus on many issues while a demential specialist focuses only on dementias.

Driving is a complex skill. My husband's driving problems were the first concrete sign that he was developing issues. Would drive right past very familiar places.

This didn’t happen to me but it was so funny, I remember it vividly. I was working in the medical department of a large NYC company, as a nurse. My friend, always put the skirt to her uniform on last when getting dressed in the morning. She arrived at work that day, took off her coat & was standing there with a blouse & half slip; she forgot to put on her skirt.
