TERRIBLE WEATHER

Yesterday in Ill where I'm at,we had terrible storms that knocked my power out.It was off from 7am til 330pm.My house stayed decent inside,but missing work,bored,and hungry,it was a very long day.I did my best not to open fridge,so peanutbutter with a spoon was it.

Just read today is supposed to be the same with heavy rain and storms

We just have high heat index (NC)...temps in mid to high 90's with high humidity. Feels like pea soup!

I'm just west of you. Right now (8/13 am), we are in a tornado warning. Tons of heavy rain. The rain is going sideways because of high winds. Thunder. Blinding lightning. One tornado has already touched down.

At 7am, it was already 85 degrees with 99% humidity.

While it is miserable to be without power, be glad you had no flood damage or storm damage.

Many in the path of these storms did. And more storms are possible today too!

@Luvsmyfam I'm in IL too. We did not lose power but on Tuesday we were in Joliet when the storm hit. We had to go in the basement of the Dr office. When we finally left, there was a lot of water, trees down and some traffic lights out.

When we got home some large tree branches down and one branch actually went over our garage and fence into the neighbor's yard. The wind also ripped the bolt with my Wicker Park spheres off the house.

I hope winter is mild.

My sister lives in Ind. She had no power every winter for like 3 days.

I bought her a Generac. Life saver.

It's been like that in NW Ohio, too. We've had morning fog and right now it's 100% humidity, but very cool. Feels like fall for sure.

Yesterday it was 72, last year 91.

I hate to lose my electricity also....the inconvenience and boredom can really take a toll on you. However, I'm very thankful for the line workers who work to restore power in all kinds of weather.

Here in east central weather, we've received record breaking rainfall the past two days with more on the way. Our area received up to 8 inches and other areas, it was up to 12+ inches. Muncie, New Castle and Cambridge City were hit hard. There were boat rescues in residential areas and streets and even interstates had buckling roads. Plus the normal basement, yard, etc. flooding with river, creeks & ponds overflowing. My drive to work yesterday morning was a little hairy and I thought yesterday evening would be worse as we had heavy rain all day but it was actually a little better.

I'm ready for some fall weather.

I'm in NW Indiana. We had a horrible storm and extremely high winds on Tuesday morning. We are fine but our kids and families haven't been. There were tornadoes across the border, in Illinois, that traveled east. One of our kids had assorted tornado damages to the roof, fence, etc. Then there were straight line wind speeds over 100 mph +. They called it a derecho. The entire region looks like a war zone - trees snapped in half, others huge ones split to the ground or completely uprooted and laying on cars, homes, and blocking streets, electricity poles broken and leaning on homes and cars, fields of corn stalks laying flat on the ground . A home near our DD & DSIL exploded and a lady was killed - they think it was storm related. All of our kids have been without power since it all started. One finally got his back this morning. Our DD and DDIL drove an hour away to find a generator. Our other DS and family came here yesterday to do laundry, charge all the electronics, shower, eat, etc. The others are managing the best they can. Businesses have no power so two of our three haven't been able to work. The power company said they had 300K customers without power. Other county power companies sent help with the restoration process and our governor dispatched the National Guard. Gasoline lines have been insane.

As miserable as as it is to be withoiut electric power, at least in the daytime reading is possible and it is great to have the oppportunity to read a quality book once safety issues have been addressed. "Boredom" in a storm is not, and would never be, a problem with me.

@Luvsmyfam we have lost all power many times over the 26 years in our home. Hours? No, 1 time ours was off for over 3 days. Someone tore up a major underground cable that effected about 1,200 homes in our area.

I read that Tornado Alley has shifted and now includes Illinois all the time, the whole state. Glad you folks have basements up there. Saw photos and videos of the NW Indiana storms-yikes, and deaths too. So horrible.

Here in the Tampa Bay area we are under another heat advisory-temp 95, heat index 108. Frequent thunderstorms, typical here in summer. Weather ppl are watching several areas in the tropics for development. I am not concerned. When it gets into Sept and Oct, thats when the likelihood of hurricanes is higher.

One of the first things we did when we moved down here was buy a generator. Gives us peace of mind.

Indiana set a new record for tornadoes this year. It's also a record for the most people losing power. There are rumors that it could still be several more days before everyone is restored.

Daytime is when everyone is checking on their friends and family, cleaning up their own property, helping neighbors, looking for resources, trying to find meals, shopping for generators, searching for gasoline and then sitting in line for hours hoping there's still some left when it's your turn.

my husband fills gas cans every year, about 12 of them, and stores them in our shed. This is "hurricane gas", for the generator and cars. Hes all about being prepared. We cut down all the oak trees so no worries about anything fallin̈g on the house.

At least there is plenty of notice for hurricanes.
