QUESTION FOR AMAZON USERS

I'm an eBay seller and also do most of my buying there, as well. I just never found Amazon to be particularly user-friendly, I guess.

Yesterday, I found a couple of things on Amazon I'm considering buying and left them in my shopping cart.

Today, both are a couple of dollars higher .... Is this common?

Yes. Prices fluctuate up and down on a regular basis depending upon the stock and other factors.

Prices on amazon can fluctuate. What I like to do is click on the Price History link found in the item's description to get look at where the prices have been in the recent past. That way I can either wait for the price to come down or just buy it now if the price seems to be stable.

Yes, It's called dynamic pricing.

Very common on Amazon. When I see something that I want to buy but think the price is too high, I add to to my cart and click on save for later. When the price changes, Amazon will notify you the next time you go to your account.

I've seen prices fluctuate as much as $12 on items.

And I always click on the price history link, which is usually next to the price.

I find much better prices elsewhere very often, so I dont even have Prime. I think Amz is great for someone like my daughter who works full time and has 2 young kids, very convenient.

I buy A LOT from Amazon. When purchasing skincare and beauty products, I make sure the seller is the actual product company. I don't buy from third-party sellers.

As a Prime member for more years than I can remember, I can say it does not happen a lot. In all my years purchasing I would say 3 times it has happened. So not a frequent occurrence.

Amazon was the pioneer in Dynamic Pricing, now used by many, many online retailers.

I find it to be very, very common and part of its normal business model.

My experience is that Amazon prices move on a weekly, daily and I've even seen hourly basis!

@Rockycoast Amazon does it all the time. You just might not be noticing.

Just recently, some folks were discussing an item and it's price on Amazon, but when I went to Amazon, the item was not that price, it was more. I wasn't interested in buying said item . I just wanted to see what it was. but I checked a few times on the price since 2 different people were quoting me a lower price. Then, one day out of the blue when I had stopped checking on it, I got a notice that the price had dropped.

I also have an app nthe displays the price history on a graph on the product's page and almost everything goes up and down. It's actually pretty rare to see a straight line, at least in my experience.

@Tinkrbl44 Between DH and myself we have Amazon packages being delivered almost every day. One of the things about them is that their prices fluctuate a lot!

If you keep the item in your cart or list chances are that it will go back down in price and maybe even lower.

@Tinkrbl44 yes, but that can be a good thing! I often put thing in my cart and then click on "save them for later." Then if the price goes down I'll see it. They regularly list when there is a price change.

If I look at something at Amazon, but leave without purchasing, I often see that Amazon has lowered the price as an inducement when I come back!

Makes shopping fun and adventurous! Shopping is, after all, a sport.

QVC had cancelled my A/D for Strivectin Tightening Neck Cream 3.4 oz ($90). Amazon had a one day special for the same for $99. I purchased it on their subscription services and saved an additional 5% for every 5 months. The price now is $159.00. So, it does pay to watch their prices.

Just today I had an item in my cart and now it $15 less. Sometimes it pays to wait. I did buy it. Plus it's due to be delivered later today. QVC can't do that.

If I'm just "shopping or looking" and not buying .... I usually get an email with an "incentive" or something similar that I might be interested in.

I'm a "subscribe and save" buyer ... get lots of deals from them.

I throw stuff in my cart all the time and do a save for later. Alexa notifies me if the price drops. Sometimes I buy when that happens, sometimes I don’t.

@SurferWife you are so correct about that! I read article in NYT not too long ago how often third party products on Amazon, (as well as eBay) , are expired, (Ready to expire) are seconds, or knock off products. They did extensive testing of items over a year or so and found this to be true. Especially if you are buying name brand products. Many 3rd parties buy overstock, or dated product. Many buy knock offs because they order their stock from out of country, or it comes from overseas ...then to local US warehouse. So it's hard to tell where oroduct is coming from!!

Yes sometimes up sometimes down witih items in your cart. To the right of the price click on Price History and will show the changes in prices by dates.

How long have you been selling on eBay? I've been there 30 years

Some of the items are on a 8 or 9 day cycle where it will go lowest to highest then start over and cycle again.
