Customs Delay?

I was expecting a package from Amazon and checked my Order Status. It says Delayed by Customs. So, I check the tracking information. The package originated in Wyoming MI. But, that's not where the Customs Delay was. It wanders across the country to a city 2 hours north of me and then goes to Atlanta which is about 4 hours away. Probably flew over my house in transit. That is where my Customs Delay is.

Strange. Why is a package that originated in the US going through Customs?

Sounds like a made up excuse for the delay. Or someone doesn't know what s(he) is doing!

I have a package sitting in a UPS facility in PA. No explanation why. Been there for a week now with no movement.

@Mz iMac Why should that matter if the package originated in the US? Shouldn't the delay be at the point that the item enters the US?

ETA: BTW, all the items in my order were fulfilled by Amazon, not the vendor.

@Icegoddess Because if Wyoming MI has an international airport, they would also have Customs.

You can always have Amazon a "human" CS call you so you can ask them about it.

@Mz iMac But the Customs Delay wasn't until it got to Atlanta.

According to UPS tracking my package is now in the next city over from me, so we'll see if it makes it here or goes on another trip. I see no reason to call Amazon about it. They're just telling me what UPS' tracking says.

I've had several things I've bought recently from China. They've zipped through customs and were on their merry way in about 2 days.

I doubt Wyoming, MI does since it's a small town. Grand Rapids is pretty close by.

Most international packages clear Customs at O'Hare, since it's centrally located

Wyoming, MI is a suburb of Grand Rapids, MI, which has an international airport. I live in a small town, just outside of GR. We have two big amazon's, in town. Wacky shipping.

I can never understand why such a hurry to get a package. I figure I will get it when it gets here. So many people shop the same places and for the same things. I really have never had an issue getting items.

Wait until the holidays get here. Shop early for sure.

I do more local shopping than anything else. If I can't find what I am looking for then I shop on line.

@Roscoe the Rascal It's not that I was in a big hurry. I almost always choose the less packaging option which takes longer. However, I do find it prudent, if I don't receive my item when it was promised, to check the order status to make sure it doesn't say it's been delivered in this day and age of porch pirates and a lot of mis-deliveries in my area.

I would prefer to shop locally, but I'm not going to waste gas driving around to different places to find what I want.

@Still Raining Everything I bought was fulfilled by Amazon, so should already be in the country.

I got my package today and I see nothing indicating it had been through customs or opened. Banged up a bit, but not opened. Still had the Amazon packing tape on it. And it was shipped out of the Amazon Fulfillment Center in Caledonia MI.

I wasn't calling you out and just curious why some do what they do. It didn't sound nice and I am sorry and didn't mean it that way. I never had an issue with anything missing from my house. I have a watch dog neighbor across the street plus my daughter lives next door so we keep our eye out for deliveries. I am pretty close to shopping and I enjoy looking around but searching on line for items always offers a nice variety too.

Recently I was looking for table runners but wanted a certain size and nothing in the stores. I found some really great ones on Amazon and ordered. I couldn't believe how nice they were.
