KIDS CELEBRATE AMERICA IN ART

Oznell — Fri, 03 Jul 2026 22:53:14 GMT

One of the America 250 organizations sponsored a contest for kids to express their feelings and perceptions of this country in art. There were wonderful submissions, a few of which I selected below:

Aileen K. Fifth grade:

Love that Aileen included the iconic burger, and possibly a jazz-playing horn in her imaginative pastiche.

Arjun K. Fifth Grade

I like that Arjun included "Sweet land of liberty" and "Freedom to Explore" in what seems to be an intricate self-portrait. In the right bottom corner of his canvas, is that a pink dinosaur, or maybe an octopus?

Mirabelle G. 4th grade:

Mirabelle's benevolent "America" figure, and the tiny dancer-- exquisite!

Kanghyeon B. 8th grade

I love them all, but Kanghyeon's mixed-media collage might be my favorite. Love his fiercely concentrating soldiers, and his shout-outs to "semi-conductors" and the "economy". Very discerning young man!

Yufan L. 11th gradeYufan, as a high schooler, shows so much talent in his combo portrait, and brilliantly colored landscape...

Love the spirit of these kids, and I'm as excited and joyful about America on this holiday, her achievements and possibilities, as they are.

They are all very talented. I especially like the 4th grader's picture...what artistic talent for one so young. So good to see these young people show appreciation and love of country through their artwork.

These are beautiful and so creative! Being a regular classroom teacher, I included art when I could in my lessons, but I never had a chance to really get into it with them too much. Now that I'm retired and subbing, art is one of my favorite classes to do. It's amazing how talented some children are. I love to see what they can do since I can barely draw a straight line myself, lol! Thanks for sharing this, @Oznell .

What a wonderful post to share! Very, very special. When I was involved with our local gallery I loved all of the young people's programs, they are so insightful.

Thank you @Oznell !

This artwork is remarkable. @Oznell Each piece shows how children see this country with imagination, hope, and a sense of possibility. They blend symbols of America with their own creativity in a way adults rarely do. It’s a reminder that when kids express what this country means to them, they focus on exploration, freedom, unity, and the idea of a bright future. Their perspectives are inspiring.

How fabulous that you are now getting to do art with the kids, @CarolinaGirl88 . I didn't realize you were a teacher-- no doubt you are great with them. Love that you are punctuating your retirement by subbing now!

@We rescue cats , you have so many incarnations too-- didn't know you worked with galleries, cool.

@manny2 , you put it so eloquently. I was also deeply impressed with the freedom of their imaginations, merging differing, dream-like aspects of this Republic in ways that are both artistic and thought-provoking. Inspiring visions!

@Oznell

Another fantastic thread!👍

I keep going back and finding something else in each one I did not catch the first time.

What a wonderful way to delve into young creativity and perception.
These artists show true spirit.

Thank you 😊

I LOVE all these paintings - what a great art project for kids.

All so different, and colorful which shows optimism in these youngsters.

I never considered myself a talented artist, but in grade school our art teacher had us all draw a picture representing the circus that was coming to town. I remember drawing an elephant and some other animals, circus tent, etc. and I won some type of award for best poster. I was very proud of myself.

These kids are certainly proud of themselves too. Art is fun!!

That's so touching, @jellyBEAN -- and true. You did your poster, and the deserved recognition you got has stayed with you into adulthood. These things matter!

I've been looking at more submissions, even from the littlest kids, and they are so cute and heartfelt:

I think this was from a 6 year old--

A few more that struck me--

Love the way this one ( I think by a teenager) combines forms of transportation either perfected here, or very significant in the development of the nation
