Did Anyone Watch Miley Cyrus Unplugged, on MTV?

I'm not a fan of country music (much of it was country-themed), and I thought there were some odd things/costumes on that stage, but I don't think anyone who saw it could argue that she is not a talented singer.

I saw the latter part of it earlier...now I am watching the part that I missed.

I think she is quite talented, and very savvy at marketing herself.

i taped it but from what i was able to catch it was a very fun show. so cool that madonna showed up. i would have fainted in her presence. lol

not a fan at all because of the drug message she is sending to kids, her fans. i do agree she is quite smart and talented.

I know a lot of people critique Miley, but let's take a good look at her:

-she's not out drag-racing a rented Lamborghini while drunk. She also isn't showing up to rehearsals late or intoxicated (as far as I've heard). She doesn't appear to be a Bieber or a Lohan.

-she's certainly no worse in her behavior than Madonna, a figure who caused many mothers' hands to wring in the 80s...and their children didn't turn into over5exualized nymphos from listening to Madonna.

-from what I've seen so far, she appears to be a very industrious young lady who knows what she wants. She overbooks herself, performs when she is sick and makes appearances to further her career at times when she could reasonably be at home reeling over the loss of a relationship. Her parents and other relatives may not be approving of her methods, but her drive is so apparent that it would be hard to be a disapproving relative.

-whether or not she does drugs or drinks is somewhat immaterial, IMO. Lots of young people dabble in those things. She has not allowed those activities to turn her into a burnout or a train wreck.

-IMO, the take-away from her life that should be stressed is that, if you are hard-working and driven, you can accomplish more than someone who waits for success to come to him/her. I also appreciate the fact that she has her own identity, and is not a carbon-copy of some other starlet, past or present.

To be fair...there are a TON of musicians advocating drugs in their music.

When I was growing up, the hardest drug I tried was pot. The reason? My parents scared the h*** out of me regarding drugs like cocaine, heroin, etc. The fact that I was listening to Marilyn Manson at the time (and other bands who wrote about drug abuse) did nothing to entice me into trying cocaine or heroin, despite the drug references in their songs.

Musicians influence kids in negative ways when kids feel they have no one to turn to for positive guidance and honest answers.

I hope that very few listeners disregard her singing skill, but unfortunately she has chosen to present herself in a way that de-emphasizes her vocal skill. Pity.

If you want a real treat, go to You Tube and search for her backyard sessions. My favorite is her singing Dolly ' sold song, Jolene. Really fine rendition.

She's hardly alone in that. Many, many musicians, and many with a lot more years on them than Miley, have done this. And are still around, kicking butt.

I have heard it and she does an awesome job. I could take her nekked but the pushing of drugs in her songs and on video's is where I draw the line. She is talented, pretty smart PR wise but... I really detest her promoting drugs in her songs.

singing about drugs is nothing new. my husband is really into 60's and 70's rock and many of the songs have references to drugs. i guess no one noticed back then or they were stoned. lol

I'm a big Miley fan. Cardinal Girl I will take a look at that video, thanks for posting about it.

I agree I hope she knocks it off with the drug references in her music. SHe doesn't need to do that. SHe's been noticed now, she has a fan base that crosses generational lines and I hope she just let's her talent do the talking instead continuing with those drug references.

I think she is talented but the drug stuff is irritating. I have seen far too many people in my life who took them and are now non- functioning. Sure, some can get away with using drugs but there are many who couldn't and we don't always hear about them. She thinks she is cool but in actuality she is just plain old stupid...

I think her head is really messed up... thus the bi polar personality... like Justin Bieber. She surounds herself with the same type of people Justin does, hip hop etc, and the drug culture, s#e*x culture follows... If she continues in the path of destruction she is headed for, she will end as most of them do. Either a mess....and dead... or just a mess( if she is lucky.....)

Yes, Miley is very talented. The song mashup with Madonna was fun. Wrecking Ball is great. Now if I just didn't have to look at that tongue, I'd be fine. I think tongues are kind of ugly, and she is such a pretty girl.
