BE CAREFUL OF TOXIC PLANTS WITH YOUR PETS!!!

I came across an article warning people that Lilies are very TOXIC to cats. (source: Modern Cat Magazine).

Licking a few pollen grains off the fur or drinking the water from the vase can cause fatal kidney failure.

Signs of Lily Toxicity in Cats

Early signs of lily toxicity in cats include decreased activity level, drooling, vomiting, and loss of appetite. These symptoms start zero to 12 hours after ingestion. Signs of kidney damage start about 12 to 24 hours after ingestion and include increased urination and dehydration.

So .... I also checked what plants can be fatal for dogs.

Many common plants are toxic to dogs, including azaleas, daffodils, sago palms, and English ivy. Symptoms of poisoning can range from mild gastrointestinal upset to severe reactions like seizures or even death, so it's important to keep these plants out of reach.

If you have pets, PLEASE be aware of plant toxicity.

A nice person can bring you flowers, and it can end up killing your dear fur baby.

Yes, something beautiful can be dangerous to our four-legged babies.

I know Christmas pointsettias can be toxic to dogs.

Every Easter Lilies are everywhere. None that I've seen on sale have a sign notifying of the danger to pets.

know what can be trouble for our pets.

Growing up, we had all sorts of animals AND plant life (including lilies). The pets used their G-d given instincts and there was never an issue.

I know puppies especially can get into and eat everything they possibly can.

To ALL posters here please pass this info on to friends and family, you never know you might just save them an Emergency Vet visit and MOST importantly their fur babies life. ❤️

Just an example … Some fur babies have separation anxiety and you never know what they might get into.

Animals don't always know when something is harmful.

My friends were given a potted lily plant and their cat ate the leaves and nearly died. They rushed it to the vet and were lucky they were able to save him.

Dogs will also lick antifreeze because of the sweet taste. And it will kill them.

Responsible pet owners take precautions to keep their pets safe.

Easter Lilies have always been a favorite and we'd get one every year. We have been a cat family for 44-45 years, having anywhere from one to four at any given time, but right now it's two. We always had Easter Lilies without anyone bothering them. But then when my mom passed away many years ago we had a Peace Lily that DH and I took from the funeral home. We ended up with a sick cat and didn't know why. We took the cat to the vet. The stool sample exam contained plant matter. After some questions the vet told what probably happened. When we got home, sure enough, the Peace Lily had been chewed on. I can't remember clearly what it was but there was treatment and the cat recovered - activated charcoal, maybe? The Peace Lily got pitched and I've not purchased an Easter Lily since.

I think cats are more prone to chewing on things they shouldn't than dogs. I had some type of Lily that I had to get rid of when I found out it was toxic to cats. I saw a few nibbles off the end of the stems, looked it up and found out it was toxic so out it went.

Animals should be able to live outdoors where they are free to roam and wander at will and it doesn't matter what they get into.

Nevertheless, don't have things around that could harm pets or small children, because you can't predict what they might get into.

That's just common sense, IMO.

A few years ago we were given a little jade plant in a Peeps planter, from our DS and DDIL, with a card that said "some bunny's" on their way". I transplanted it as it grew and kept that thing alive and thriving all this time . The cats have always left it alone so I never thought about it, but all day it's been on my mind and now I just don't feel right about keeping it. I asked DH his opinion and he agreed that we needed to let it go. It's in the trash.

Left to wonder free? Have you seen rescue pictures of emaciated dogs and cats who have been left to survive on their own ?

I have previously posted on this issue. It is inherently apparent that more dangers exist outdoors. The first statistic I saw on Google said that indoor cats live an average of 12-20 years while, on average, outdoor cats survive for only 2-5 years. The lifespan of dogs varies greatly according to breed and size but, generally, indoor dogs survive. longer. It is hard to convince some people of reliable data when it does not conform to their belief system or life experience, which is based on a statistically very small sample size.

Crazy? Why? Because they had freedom and weren't subjected to 'house rules' and being told "no" all the time (ie "no scratching the furniture", "no jumping on the couch", "no chewing the slippers", "no..................................").

Oh, please. They always had plenty of food and shelter and were always a healthy weight.
