THE DUCHESS'S JEWELRY STYLE

"Tatler" magazine did an interesting piece on Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester's jewelry collection, and how she wears it. ( She's the late Queen Elizabeth's cousin by marriage).

At 79, a lovely and gracious lady, who shows some dash in the way she wears these baubles.

Her Art Deco diamond clips on that velvet suit, love.

A front view of those clips and that jaw-breaker pearl necklace!

Here are the pearls casually layered with another necklace--

She clearly enjoys layering. Her unusual necklace below is a gold locket in the shape of a book, and the delicate pin above it mimics another necklace. The pin on her lapel is a gold basket, in honor of an event she did with the ancient order of London basket makers ( or something like that!).

More layered gold, and a favorite charm pin--

The charm pin centered on shirt collar, gives her that gamine, 'forever-schoolgirl' look, cute!

Of course, she has access to the heavy hitter Gloucester jewels, like these yummy emeralds--

Mmmm-- look at those cabochon emerald drops! I like the way she pairs emeralds with blue outfits--

The Honeysuckle Tiara, which came down through Queen Mary, is a stunner.

Love her in the pink topazes-- glowing!

She always seems to have had a flair-- like back when she sported this dragonfly brooch on her hat.

Accompanied by steely gray pearls and a delicate floral spray--

Even the diamond ring that the Duke designed for her had a vaguely floral design, in the form of a rosette--

Speaking of the Duke, here they are casually marking their 50th wedding anniversary. She's still smartly layering her gold necklaces, and I love her contemporary watch:

That looks like a luscious ruby brooch pinned to this hat on a somber Remembrance Day--

Yet another solemn remembrance...

Lovely taste in jewelry and it makes her outfits look interesting. I prefer her white pearl necklace and l love the book necklace compared to the heavy hitter jewels.

Pearls are my favorite and I love that beautiful pearl necklace in the first few pictures. I wish princess Catherine would wear princess Diana's gorgeous pearl and sapphire and diamond choker necklace but it wouldn't surprise me if she doesn't until William is king.

I have always liked Birgitte, she married the second son and never dreamed she would be a Duchess. Birgitte studied to be an architect and married the second son to the Duke of Gloucester. Duke Henry was Queen Elizabeth's uncle, her late father's younger brother.

Just a few weeks after Birgitte and Prince Richard were married the first Prince William and heir to the Dukedom crashed his plane at an air show and he and his passenger burned alive inside the small plane. Duchess Birgitte's live changed as well as Prince Richard's. She as such great style and elegance and in 2024 really picked up the slack with the cancer diagnosis in the royal family.

@beckyb1012 , thanks for adding all the extra info on this worthy royal. I also like that she was a commoner, and a Dane, who found her way into the family and has contributed positively. Unlike Princess Michael, another Continental denizen, ( can't remember if she was German or Austrian?), who created many headaches for the Brits.

She has some beautiful pieces and most often wears them well. There have been times, though, when she's been pictured wearing a bit too many. Recalls the old saying, always take one piece off before going wherever one is going. Though she most often doesn't overdo, there are times when she might take more than a single piece off.
