I Am So Over This Winter

I'm sure I am not alone hating this winter. Normal NE PA winters are tolerable. Yeah, we get a couple really frigid days here and there but this weeks of brutal cold is insane. I have spent more on home heating oil in December and January than I ever have.

I told DD that if this is going to be the norm we need to move. She said, "Yeah, and go where?" She's right. Where? Neither of us could never survive the summers in the south. Too hot (I know, it's a dry heat) in the south west.

I want mild winters and 70 degree summers with no humidity. I think I'm out of luck. Hawaii? Too far, I don't fly, too expensive to say nothing of pesky volcanoes and tsunamis.

I can dream but believe I'm stuck here,,,,,,polar vortex and all.

I HATE, yes, HATE, winters! Always have, always will. Michigan is where I live. Granted, not the worst state for winters, but not exactly the best either. Especially this winter. For years I've always said at the beginning of December that I can't wait for winter to be over with. My husband would say that it hasn't even started yet. My response would be I know! I was having this same conversation with my husband, there is not state I would want to move to. Each of them have something I don't want to deal with weather wise, so here I stayed. Plus, the special education program in our county is the best in the state of Michigan, which my daughter has been a part of her whole life. She aged out last year at 26. So, another reason we stayed.

I think the last two winters have spoiled us in my neck of the woods ( southern NY state) Last winter we had almost no snow and although it was cold it wasn't frigid. Winter is a ****** shoot, you just never know for sure how it will shake out. Ican't handle heat and humidity, so , what can you do ?

Late 2024, I moved back to Westchester County after living in DE for 6 years. My apartment complex was on a lake. I have pictures of sitting at the lake, sunning, the week before Christmas!

Didn't happen this year.

And today I posted a memory on FB of sitting on the beach (bay, actually) in Lewes, DE, on 1/26/24. The temperature was 75 degrees.

That didn't happen this year either!

I knew this winter was going to be a deusy. I live lakefront in upper lower peninsula of Michigan. Our lake froze over a full 6 weeks ahead of when it usually does. We've had lake effect deep snow since November. I'm not a fan of winters but it sure is an experience living through this one. I have some wonderful photos though!

Living in west central Michigan has been a challenge this winter. As another poster stated, the past few winters have been "tolerable". Last year, I think spouse only had to use the snowblower 4 times. This year, it was 4 times in one week, with vicious cold temps (-29 one morning). And don't get e started on the daily watches and warnings I get every day! We are thinking about hoping we can pry our travel trailer out of the snow, and heading down to Florida for a month. Have to do some research first. Good luck to you all.

Our weekly chat was centered around alot of this last night. But the concensus was one that many will not like. It was "eeehhhh, It's January, what do we expect?" And I agree, this is what winter used to be, we survived it...and some actually like it. I have to admit I sort of agree, it reminds me of years gone by.

I've always joked about why my ancestors settled in the upper midwest.

We had 3 nasty blizzards in December and a couple of what we call small snows since. We're north of the huge part of the country that got snowed in last weekend.

However, our temps have been ice cold! We were way below 0 for days and days with wind chill as bad as -41. It actually got up to 1 degree yesterday.

Our forcast is 30 degrees on Sunday...we just have to make it until then.

Nope not anywhere ready for another miserable summer with temps from 100-118 for months on end. Summer will be here much to soon. The weathermen are already giddy for it hitting 80 next week just in time for the Phoenix Open Golf tournament.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 I'm where you are! But I absolutely love the 4 seasons and would not be happy anywhere else.

We've had some light winters lately, so I guess we were due. Besides, we need the moisture.

I admit, though, this has changed my walks. Still walking, but much slower due to trudging through snow or dodging the icy patches.

Am not a winter fan anyway--am in WA state. In Dec we had so much rain for days on end that lead to massive flooding--not usually a thing here, then Jan nothing but dry, sunshine cold/chilly temps and blue sky. Our temps are going back into the 50's again--not good for the snow pack and of course---starting tomorrow--when I will be moving to a new place--rain is predicted!! I know---wht am I complaining about---I know!! gird your loins!!!

@joannecha : We live also in west central MI (sorta) and this winter has been a challenge. I find going to a large B&M store for my walks,IF we can get down the driveway and out to the main road. Some days our road to the main road is not plowed by the county so no mail delivery.

I love Winter. We just got a lot of snow with -17 wind chill and I'll take that any day over 115 heat index. Everyone is different and I have no problem with the cold. I just don't like the high utility bill. And I'm gonna enjoy every bit of it after the long hot brutal Summer we had. And knowing the heat is coming again in a few months.

We got mail delivery yesterday,but late. It was already dark. We're still digging out. My school is closed today too. My husband is sick of digging. So we hired a guy we know. He comes today. Still no trash or recycling. Hoping they will come tomorrow. Annoying it's so cold for the rest of the week. Although there is hope after this coming week end. Hoping they ship food to the stores!

My daughter just texted me from the cruise ship. I am jealous. Two feet of snow here and 8° this morning. Our condo is just getting plowed out now, steps are not done. I am north of Boston and we are used to snow but last few years we lucked out. Mother Nature is getting even. I promise to love summer this year.

We got 17" this past weekend and they are talking about the possibility of another foot or so this Sunday. A nor'easter is brewing and they are tracking it. I hate snow.

I am on the southern end of WV with 8" of snow and bitter cold temps for the last 4 days. Right now the sun is bright and my thermometer says it is 22 outside; it is 38 inside my garage.

I won't say I "love" this weather, but this is normal WV winter weather for a change, and what my husband and I dealt with all of our working years.
