Faux nails

If you have faux nails what kind do you have?

Years ago I got the tips then they'd put a powder or some sort of overlay over the tips. They were so thin and natual looking. I had them on for a year but got a fungus so of course had them removed.

I've been thinking about them again - just don't know what to get.

I absolutely hate the look of some faux nails. The ones that are too thick.

I do not have fake nails and I agree that some are way too thick and look awful. I did notice one of the host's nails last night (I think it's Rachel - the one who does the chat when she works with David). They were pinkish but at the base, there was a white smile line. It looked like an attempt at covering up the growth mark. I hope that's not a growing fad because it looked ridiculous.

I had acrylics and also had black spots grow under them. Fungus? I used to have to wash my hands alot at work? Getting a fill every two weeks is too cumbersome.

Tried gel nails, again every two weeks, but now retired I dont care. I do my own, usually clear or pale polish.

I do like gel pedis as easier for them than me to do toenails and cuticle removal. Don't need to go in as often.

Natural nails here. Never got faux. Do my own mani's, I do get pedi's but only about 6-8 a year.

grew out my natural nails after removal of gels/acrylics about six months ago. It took time, patience, many creams oils and strengtheners, routinely trimming off the damaged portion of nail when there was enough to trim. Overall a huge pain. As of right now my nails and cuticles are healthy, damage-free, polished with a champagne shimmery color. They look nice. Fingertips length now; will let them grow just a bit longer. Never again will I ruin them with enhancements.

I have longer length natural nails and get pro manicures every other week using regular polish. Get a pro pedi every 10 weeks

At one time, I had acrylic nails that were mixed with power and polymer and put on my natural nails with a metal form under them. After they dried, they were filed and polished.

I have never worn any type of glued on nail tips with acrylic over them. You don't want anything where moisture can get under any part of the nails and get trapped.

If you want to grow out your own nails, put gel polish on them, but use a peel off base coat first.Cure with the LED light.

The gel polish won't last as long with the peel off base coat, but they're an easy way to remove the gel and won't damage your nails. You only put the thin base coat on in the middle of your nails, not on the side or tips. Then use the regular base coat, then gel polish, then top coat....very, very thin layers and cure after each application.

The gel polish keeps nails from tearing and breaking. I use Olive and June available at Target. My manicure lasts about a week to 10 days and I do it at home.

My Acrylic nails were done by a professional who was excellent. I got a manicure every 2 weeks.

My nails have always been strong and grow like crazy.I'm always asked if they're my nails.

Love manis and pedis. Stopped them when I got a fungus in one nail. Took forever to get rid of it.

It's advised to take your own tools to keep it clean. That seems more trouble than doing my own. Of course, they NEVER look as good.

no faux nails here, have my own natural nails, never did faux of any kind . Do pedis in summer in colder months do my own.

Years ago I had nail tips. Never had them too long as I was a secretary and did a lot of typing. When a nail came off and I saw what my nail looked like, I had them removed and it took a long time to get my nails healthy again.

Did I learn my lesson?? Of course not.

I went to gel nails, loved the look, especially when french manis were the rage. But I hated the grinder thingy to file them. Again, stopped and it took months to get some sort of nails back.

Several years ago, when I worked at Vera Bradley outlet, one of our employees was a student at a local cosmetology school. She became a nail technician and we were her guinea pigs. She then got a job at a nail salon right across the street from us. So I started again. My nails looked so nice, but one good thing is that she manually filed my nails instead of that grinder thingy. Of course I gave her a larger tip for that. I stopped when I moved back to NY.

Since then, I use a product called Keratin in a yellow bottle I put it on my nails every day. Get it at Walmart for about $5. And I take Hair/Skin/Nails gummies & collegin every day. When I went for a mani this week, the technician said my nails are strong. They are short, but strong.

I've finally learned my lesson!

I have hard gel nails and have gel polish on top. I get them filled every 5 weeks. I don't have time to maintain my own nails. I don't have to touch them for 5 weeks, but I apply cuticle oil every night.

If you've had fungus before odds are you could have it again.

I've had friends with it and their entire nail had to be removed.

fear of getting a fungus is a main reason I stopped going. I dont even go for manicures anymore, dont like the practice of cutting cuticles. Sometimes a little too close and ouch! There is immediate opportunity for bacteria to get in. Nope. Going to keep doing my own at home

I had them for many years, loved my tech and went every two weeks. Then I just got tired of the time commitment and quit.

It was shocking to see how weak my nails were underneath after they were removed. Never again.

My natural nails are "ok." I keep them short, (Like Smoochy's.) I keep them manicured (I do my own.). I could never grow my nails much beyond the end of my fingers as the middle and pointer finger nails bend.

I've taken Nature's Bounty Hair Skin & Nail for many years - it has really helped. My nails don't break like they used to years ago.

Just curious and thinking about faux nails again lately - I love the look of longer nails. Not super long though.

If I had a fungus in the '80s whyt would I necessarily get another one today??
