Corelle Dish Demo

I taped David this afternoon and watched it when Jennifer was demonstrating Corelle dishes. She talked about how durable they are and went on the show just how durable. Slammed one on the floor and it broke into many, many pieces. Suddenly, the demo was over in less than 3 minutes, which must be a record, and was cut away to show another item. I had Correlle dishes way back in the 70's and even then they were not that durable. Drop one and you'd have a big mess to clean up. I realize poop happens, but ----!!!

Bummer! But I love Corelle and use it daily- $60 with free shipping today is good for a set! Of course I always wonder if the quality has decreased over time-

@Skyegirl21. It's not the most gorgeous dishware but it's (usually) indestructible and very lightweight.

@coffee drinker . OMG. I did not Ser the whole show. But yes, I did the same as you. Many years ago, I dropped one and it shattered into a million pieces.

'Gee', I've had Corelle plates and bowls and cups for years........Not one has broken.

Also, I've noticed that they 'float'. They don't seem to 'sink' to the bottom of a plastic kitchen sink bin of soapy water.

Been using my Corelle Butterfly Gold dishes for 51 years, and they are not durable enough to survive a direct drop on the floor.

100% I do NOT do Corelle.

I like the look, the designs, the price, but broken glass pieces can be deadly in a house with multiple pets. Those pieces also shatter into teeny tiny splinters. Some of the Corelle items are not completely microwave safe, either, and can become very hot.

For daily use we stick with porcelain--also will shatter when broken, but the pieces are much more sturdy, and easier to clean up. We like Lenox--microwave and dishwasher safe.

For fancy occasions I have a very nice bone china set with gold designs--all need to be handwashed, and never put in the microwave!

This blooper reminds me when MBR was presenting hollow gold jewelry that was allegedly dent proof. I think it was a bracelet that she put on the floor and proceeded to stomp on it with her shoe. Guess what ? The thing looked like it got run over by a truck.

As usual, Marybeth was the ultimate professional. Still funny though !

We used to have a beagle. The scamp discovered that he could hop up and ****** the Corelle dishes off the counter. The Corelle was lightweight enough that it would easily become aerodynamic. The food would go flying. The Corelle would smash on the floor. The beagle would get the food. He broke all of our Corelle dishes in that fashion.

We carry Corelle in the camper because it is lightweight and we can put it in the microwave. We hit a nasty crater in a parking lot and the cupboard opened, one of the dishes came out and hit the floor. there were at least a thousand shards on the floor. I was scared to death that the cats were going to get hurt so I locked them in the bedroom and ran the sweep 4 times after I picked up the big pieces. Never again.

@coffee drinker The very first thing I thought when I realized she was going to drop a plate was "Not on a tile/concrete floor!" Of course it shattered! I might have taken a shot at that demo if I was on a linoleum or other padded flooring surface, but not tile or concrete. Sheesh! How many times did they do test drops before they went on air with that? Not enough, clearly.....

We had Corelle when we first got married...the first piece was broken after it slid off the dish drainer onto the floor--and a butter knife slid after it and landed on top of it.

It shattered into nothing but splinters & dust! I had to count my bowls and saucers to determine it was a bowl that had broken!!!!!

ETA: After many years of stoneware, I went back to Corelle a few years ago. Love that it's lightweight and easier to handle.

theyre a well known brand. i havent heard from them in awhile but of course they break..that was dumb of her to do that during a presentation though..she must didnt know about them but now she does. i thought everybody knew. ha ha too funny.

I have Corelle dishes from the 80s. I still use them everyday. Very few have broken in all these years. Any dish other than plastic is going to shatter if you slam it down. I would have liked seeing that demo though. It would have been hilarious.
