PayPal help

I received an email today from PayPal saying someone sent me two payments of $1,000 within 30 minutes of each other. I don't know who this person is and I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to PayPal. I wasn't sure if this person made a mistake or if this is some sort of scam. I looked into PayPal's help section but didn't see any way to contact them about payments like this. Any help from those of you who know more about PayPal is appreciated. Thanks.

I get that same email every few weeks. It's a scam. Ignore it.

I hope you got out of it without any consequences! If you have a question about PayPal.....go to PayPal directly!

Your Email is a scam to get your information!

I see the money when I log into my PayPal account. It shows the $2,000 in the blue box that says "Money is waiting for you." Should I just leave it there?

I logged into PayPal directly by opening another tab in my browser. I did not click on any links in the email sent to me.

Definite scam, just dont open and delete. you can forward any scam or suspicipus emails involving PP to spoof@paypal.com

@Tink814 it's a scam sadly. They want you click their link, and of corse they will need to ask you personal data to check for your acct. big scam. I do get those, and what I do is go to PayPal as I woukd to make purchase. I check my acct. if anyone has sent you money it will be noted in your acct.

@Tink814. Sounds like a scam, and there are many using PayPal name. Go to their website and access the recent activity on your account. Do not use links on the message you got. Call them if you need help.

Thank you all for the responses. I did not click on any links in the email. I went directly to PayPal myself in another tab. I can see the money in there. When the first $1,000 came in, I contacted PayPal and opened a case. They emailed me shortly after and said there was no unauthorized use. I'm not sure how to remove the $2,000 sitting in my PayPal account.

@Tink814 - I learned a while ago there are a lot of scams with PayPal.

I did call someone once. I Googled it and got a phone number, called it and got a real person!

She helped me a lot. She told me to always check the address of the sender. If it's a Gmail address chances are good it's fake.

I always check now. If it's Gmail I hit "delete."

Well, that is a different problem. If you see money there, somone must have sent it in error. If you contacted PayPal and they opened a case, just sit tight.

They will take care of it and get back to you.

I wanted to come back and update. I called PayPal and spoke to customer service. Turns out it was not a scam. Someone sent $2,000 to me by mistake. They walked me through how to return the money to this woman.

Do NOT respond and whatever credit card you use contact them and change the card to a new card number!! Do NOT go back to paypal!!! I had an issue with them and I stopped. It was with Classmates and I did not renew with classmates and stopped using paypal. No problem since.

Doesn't the person need your "real name" or some other personal info, your account to send money from person to person through PayPal?

Did you know this woman who sent you $2k?

I have no idea who this woman was. I did not recognize her name or her picture. I'm not sure how sending money through PayPal works. It was so odd how she sent the money to me by mistake.

i use paypal often and i use a persons email address (or ask them to send me an invoice, if applicable.) to send money.

First ... Welcome! It's nice to have another Tink here.

Second ... anything I get that looks like a Paypal scam I immediately forward it to spoof @ paypal dot com.

I get an automated email back from Paypal telling me they work hard to locate and disable any fraudulent blah blah blah.

After getting that thank you email back, I always feel like a good citizen ... reporting the bad guys to someone who actually cares and is now going after those scammers.

Maybe it's odd, but so what?

@CalminHeart Op said she did and the $2,000 was there. It really is easy to send money to the wrong person by inputting the wrong email. I have had someone tell me they sent me money which I never got because they transposed something in the email. I told her I didn't get it and she went into pp to cancel the transaction.

You would think the one who sent the op money realized she sent it to the wrong person especially if the person that was suppose to get it didn't.
