Back in 1965, 1st grade, I had a red metal lunch box with a red thermos inside....I couldn't wait to open it to smell the aroma of a fried bolonga sandwich, shoe string potatoes & a banana. My thermos was filled with strawberry kool-aid....what memories

My parents did not allow us to take lunch to school. They thought the food would spoil. Consequently, I never had a lunch box. Lunch was a quarter at school and it was good. My parents lost their first child at 19 months old due to vomiting/dehydration. I am sure that was the reason we were not allowed to take food to school. They were afraid it would spoil and we would get sick.

Now, I work as a home health nurse in Florida. I work out of my car most of the time. I have a Yeti hopper 8 soft sided cooler. It was expensive but so worth it. With some ice packs, it keeps my food and drinks cool all day in the hot car.

I tried other brands, like RTIC and Stanley. My Yeti is the best, I have had it over 2 years and it cleans up like new too.

The Yeti is worth it, and sometimes they go on sale on the Yeti website.

Yes! Gaily covered in prints; I don't think I had any "themed" ones. The thermos lining was glass and sometimes broke so I had to be careful and check before I took that first sip!

I broke a "Thermos" on numerous occasions by treating the lunchbox roughly.

You could hear the glass by shaking the container.

The kids next door got new lunch kits every September. My brothers and I were given their used lunch boxes from the previous year. We were grateful for their generosity.

Oh, yes. The best part of every year going back to school was picking out a new metal lunchbox. I never used the Thermos that came alone with it because we bought our carton of milk at school. I remember picking Yogi Bear, Bugs Bunny and Friends, but I can't remember the others.. Lunch would be a sandwich and three Oreo cookies in a wax paper thing.

elementary school.....lunchbox (i think one was peanuts, but i dont remember others....maybe the partridge family?)

junior high school.....brown paper bag

high school...... family style dining at round tables

I had a few over the years. I do remember sometimes bringing a sack lunch, but I defiantly had one with Dale evans and I had one with Hop a Long, cause he was my hero . And one year it was this one with Davy Crocket Lol

In elementary School, I had a Family Affair and a Brady Bunch metal lunch box. Most of the time I had a bologna sandwich and a bag of chips. (My mom didn't know too much about healthy eating then...lol) 😂. I can't remember what I took in my thermos but every once in awhile I would have chicken and noodle soup in it as my main lunch item.

I started first grade in 1960 with a Huckleberry Hound lunch box. I googled my second lunch box, pale blue Corsage, listed as vintage 1964.

@RedTop was huckleberry Hound the show that had Snagglepus in it. He was my fav. Or maybe it was Yogi Bear. Hmmmmmmm

This is one lunch box I had and the only one I can really remember.

Used to love taking that spray cheese on crackers to school for lunch.
