Moon Landing

Yesterday 7/20 was the 56th anniversary of the 1969 moon landing. That day is commemorated as International Moon Day. I am sure there are lots of us who remember sitting around a black and white TV watching Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin descending the steps of the the Eagle, walking on the moon and planting the American Flag fulfilling President Kennedy's promise that we would land a man on the moon in that decade.

If anyone is interested Prime Video has the movie First Man. It came out in 2018. I am watching it today.

Thanks for the info on "First Man".

I remember watching on TV. It's still so incredible.

They didn't have the computer power that we now can hold in our hands, but we went to the moon!!!

I remember watching it on TV as a kid. What an accomplishment, especially with all the archaic equipment they used, like sextant to measure the stars so they could navigate! The CNN 50th anniversary documentary about it is fabulous.

I highly recommend Michael Collins' book Carrying the FIre. Absolutely a wonderful read. Amazing what the astronauts went through for training back then. It's an easy read, and Michael explains all in layman terms. Love that book. Think I'll dig it out again!

I remember it very well. I was 16 and my family and I were all sitting in the living room watching. An unforgettable event.

I was 8, and mom wanted all of us to watch this history making event. I was watching some Apollo events yesterday on story television. It was great. Watching some of those 25 year old NASA staff and their decision making. Fascinating.

I remember it very well I was a young teen watching it on the huge black and white TV in my parents living room in the Bronx

Yes, I certainly remember!

My DH was hired to work on this program, first job out of grad school. It was a shock when President Kennedy announced our goal was to put a man on the moon in ten years!

So many people worked long and hard to accomplish this goal. My DH and many others worked on the back pack, designed to keep the astronauts alive on the moon's surface.
Yes, computers were in their infancy, and my DH likes to tell people so much work was done with a "slide rule." And he still has his slide rule.

It was a challenging time, but you can never top the teamwork that made this event happen. My DH is well into

his 80s now and still excited about this achievement. We had met in this workplace, married, and had just bought our first house when this wonderful event happened.

While time has taken so many of these Apollo scientists and engineers, my DH is active and doing quite well for his age, I do think! He still has the car he bought when he was hired for his first job and is active in a car club that sponsors events to raise money for charities. He is a wonderful husband and father and grandfather.

I certainly remember that. I was watching from a hospital room just having my third daughter on the 18th. I was 27.

I also worked on the program. I was working at Beech Aircraft which provided the cryogenic gas storage system.

My dad may have worked with your husband,

@PamfromCT.

He didn't work on the backpack though.

He tried to have me use his slide rule on numerous occasions. Never ended well 😝
