Pants And Sizing Up

When shopping at a store for pants would you size up if your normal size is too tight? For some reason I won't buy a larger size - vanity issues.

Yes, if my regular size is too tight I would buy the next size that fits.

Absolutley I would size up. Comfort/fit is more important to me than size. I wear different sizes depending on the manufacturer.

Absolutely I would and do size up. I am not stuck on a size number, but look for the best fit. Besides no one sees that number but me! And I hate tight pants and how they feel so I will definitely get the size that fits.

I would, and have sized up. I'd rather be in a larger size and look put together than having the pants be ill fitting, and everybody see how ill fitting they are, and know my flaws.

I have cut the size tags out of clothing so no one inadvertently sees it, and also in the hopes of forgetting what that size is. 😆

I would go up a size but I wouldn't be happy about it, and I know that's silly because sizes are all over the place these days.

I never owned just one size in pants or tops my entire life. It was always 2 sizes...whether I was at my highest weight - 2X/3X (BTW, I never bought clothes with #'d sizes back then...LOL) or now back to a normal size XS/S (4/6).

For most of my life before I started gaining weight in my early 40's, I was mostly a size S and either a 6 or 8. I was about 1 size larger back then than I am now. I would also have to go up to a medium every once in awhile when I still shopped at B&M stores back then too.

I am roughly one size less now then way back then. I posted a pic on these forums months ago from 1995 when I was in Bermuda (I was wearing mainly a size 8/S back then with a few S/6) and one pic from a couple of years ago with my DH showing I am smaller now...mainly a 6/S with some 4/XS.

It depends on the garment, type of material, brand and line of clothes.

I always buy up a size in pants because my waist is smaller than my hips. I either use a belt or have my tailor take in the waist. Sometimes I can squeeze into the smaller size that fits my waist better, but then the pants are way too tight in the thighs. I've never liked leggings or super tight pants so I always go up a size. Works best for me.

Seriously?

What about QVC sizing where their generously cut clothing with smaller numbers on the tags is to make people think they're a smaller size than they really are? Do most women really think that the numbers on QVC garments are accurate?

You need to keep one thing in mind ... with women's clothing, there's no universal sizing.

Example: If you take six pair of size 12 black slacks into a fitting room, experience tells us they won't all fit the same.

There are countless style and manufacturers' sizing variances, and I doubt that will ever change. We need to select what looks best on us.

Personally, I've found shoes to have the same variances.

I just checked my closet. All the shoes I own fit well, and the sizes vary from 6 1/2 to size 9.

It is what it is.

Even within the same brand, the sizing can be different. I have 3 G by Giuliana skirts and they are 3 different sizes. Luckily, I checked the garment measurements on that last skirt since it was way off, but it fits. It's not like people are looking to see what size you're wearing.

When I go in a B&M store, I'll pull at least 2 sizes of anything I want to try on. And, like @wilma mentioned, I have to buy my pants to fit my rear, not my waist and then have the waist taken in or weaer a belt.

If you're hung up on size numbers, you probably wouldn't like sewing. I wear a lot larger size in sewing patterns than I do in ready-made clothing.

I always buy to fit me. Most brands I buy, I normally will wear the same size. No way, I can't manage in a pant that is ill fitting. I want to look my best. I bet I have three sizes of pants in my wardrobe with different brands. It's all good.

@KBEANS Haha, I cut the size tag out most times, too. Tops too, mainly because the tags bother my neck. I love tagless tees and tops.

I buy what fits, no matter the size. I'm usually pretty consistent though.

Linnie: I also love tagless tops and tees.

I've been reversing them for many years.

(Wearing the back side of the tee/top at my front side.)

Mainly because I like a higher neckline, and if I like a certain top/tee item, even though it's a V-neck, I just reverse the placement.
