FAVORITE AMERICAN LANDSCAPE?

Independence Day had us comparing all-time favorite landscapes in our beloved America. I was thinking of many, got to these, and couldn't narrow down any further-

Grand Canyon--

For the majesty-- it's hard to look at it and realize it's real!

But then, there's also the Red Rock country around Sedona, Arizona--

Not as 'sweeping' as the Grand Canyon of course, but equally inscrutable, and holds such fond memories for me.

The wild, more remote reaches of the Oregon coast--

But, the Great Lakes coastlines are so awe-inspiring too, especially poetically lonely stretches of Lake Superior, below, or Lake Huron--

But there are so many more, gack. Can you narrow down your favorite natural landscapes, in the beautiful U.S.A., whether personally experienced, or just dreamed about? Would be fun to hear of your prized far-flung places in this incredible landmass!

@Oznell. This wasn't an option but it's me. Wouldn't care if I never saw the ocean again but I love my mountains. They're my happy place.

@Oznell ....beautiful, thanks for posting. We do have a beautiful country and much to be thankful for here.

In addition to those you mentioned, I would add (without pictures....sorry).......Bryce Canyon and Zion not far from Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, being from Michigan...love it all there....Tahquamenon Falls in U.P., of course, Niagara Falls too. Pikes Peak is another awesome landscape and Maine...beautiful landscapes. Many others I can't think of now....hopefully, some here can add more. Every state offers something different...Alaska...on my bucket list.

"America the Beautiful" was written by Katharine Lee Bates. She was inspired to write the poem after visiting Pikes Peak in Colorado in 1893, where she was struck by the natural beauty of the landscape.

@Oznell I would have to say anything waterfront, especially the ocean but I've never seen mountains or canyons.

A big old John Deere combine working in a wheat field in Oklahoma. Cowboys and girls herding cattle in Oklahoma. Ozark hills and lakes in eastern Oklahoma. Our Black Mesa in the northwest and swamps and alligators in the southeast.

@Kachina624 My sons have been traveling past two weeks from where we live on the East Coast, across country and into Canada. The pictures alone, that they have sent have taken my breath away...North Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Oregon, omg the scenery and mountains give me goosies - up into Canada to see the Canadian Rockies and glacial turquoise colored lakes, waterfalls - Yosemite, Yellowstone - they have packed so much into this trip. They told me the mountains are almost unbelievable. My one son has a van and they have traveled hippie style and are loving it. I don't know how they are going to be able to go back to work. They have one week to travel back but they won't stop as much.

I love that they have the wanderlust and they are like my dad as he had it too 💜

edited to add that they also went to Red Rocks...with final stop as LA

I love the beauty of mountains, lakes and ocean. I love being near water. My family in California goes back to the Spanish land grants, before we were a state. So, I love it here. Where I live it's 35 mins to the ocean, a few miles to the lakes, a couple hours to the Sierras, and several hours to desert. I love the scenery of all. But in photos here, the mountain scenery enlivens my senses the most. But, the desert and red rocks are gorgeous as well

I love anywhere along the Central Coast area of California, where you see the ocean to the west and the mountains to the east.

@bmorechick. What a wonderful experience for your boys! The trip was money well spent. They got to see new territory and have memories to last a lifetime.

I've make two trips to Banff National Park in Alberta and can confirm that it's absolutely spectacular but so are our American Rocky Mts.

So much to see in our country.

@september oh my YES!! The coastal area from Oregon to San Diego is a feast for the eyes. Iam especially fond of a few miles along the PCH where the coast is clearly visible. Coming into Ventura, Malibu, etc. And the area on Hiway 1, from Davenport to Big Sur. Every month of the year it has different colors. Then a total change of the coast is the sight going north on the Highway 1. That area is a rockier cliffs, more violent water, crashing waves. Another great site for senses.

@Kachina624 Yes well worth it for sure...they are 29, 35 and 40 so Young enough to totally enjoy and old enough to have some sense (fingers crossed on that one)
