July 4th plans?

When my kids were little we used to have so much fun on the fourth! We living in NJ at the time and in the morning the kids and their cousins would go on fire engine rides.

When that ended we would walk to the end of the street and they had a small parade with the usual groups like scouts, little league, etc. Various groups would throw candy at the kids! Fire trucks from our town and neighboring towns would end the parade with sirens blasting.

Then in the afternoon it was a barb-b-que with my parents and in laws. The kids would play in the back yard then take naps to get ready to see the fireworks in the park just a few blocks over. At the time it seemed that most small towns in my area of southern NJ had fireworks. Not so much when we moved to PA.

This year we are going to Flemington, NJ on the third and meeting up with my brother & sister in law to see the fireworks there which are usually very well done. We will eat dinner out before.

My next door neighbors are having everyone who wants to come over on our street to watch the fireworks on the fourth from their backyard since they have a good view of a large basin area out back. There are always residents who shoot some large ones off.

We are probably going to pass on this since everyone who will be there will be parents in their forties with their school aged kids. While they are all nice and I like all of my new neighbors, I don't have much in common with them. Most of the older neighbors have either moved away or go to their shore houses.

What are you all doing?

A homemade Wisconsin fish fry dinner of walleye, coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries, and Parker House rolls. Strawberry shortcake for dessert. Enjoying fireworks set off a couple blocks away over the river viewed from our rocking chairs on the deck.

I have no plans, as usual for most holidays. I did mention something to that effect to my neighbor who also said she had no plans and we kind of loosely talked about maybe going out for lunch that day. So, who knows. But definitely no cookouts or fireworks or anything. No plans like that.

I have no plans. But I live a few blocks from downtown and the City will be lighting fireworks on the River front. I'll be able to see them from my deck.

The 4th is usually a guiet holiday for us. Like @Marp , we will be comforting our dogs and securing the donkey and goat so they don't run over each other hearing the fireworks being set off at the nudists' coloney down the road. They celebrate big time. Hope they are really careful. The heat and humidity are a big reason we will be secured in our home.

Calms Forte or St. Johnswort works wonders for nervous/scared dogs.

@haddon9 , when I was a little girl, which was a very long time ago, my sister and I also did the ride on the firetruck. No parade though in my little town, but btw, not too far from Flemington NJ.

@tends2dogs, I use a Vetriscience product called Composure Calming Chews that works well for one dog but has no impact on the other.

I do have Calms Forte on hand so I will try to determine dosage for my little one (10 pounds) and see if that helps her.

I am having family and friends over for a pool party. Some cousins that I haven't seen in a while are coming in for it.

@Marp Is it a cell salt that you have? If so, you could melt one in a bit of water and use syringe to administer it into their mouth. My sister does this with her 9 pound Yorkie when she gives him different remedies.

She also gives him CBD oil rubbed into his mouth to calm him and for pain.

Weather is always a factor for me. Forecast is for temp of 84 and overcast with humidity of 55%. Plan on attending a cookout with friends and watching fireworks. Will watch "A Capitol Fourth" on PBS.

@tends2dogs, the Composure is a homeopathic blend and both dogs take it eagerly. The Active Ingredients are: Thiamine (Vitamin B1), Colostrum Calming Complex Biopeptide Blend, L-Theanine.

It just does not have a calming effect on my little one but works very well on my bigger dog.

The little one is not as reactive to loud noises as my bigger dog but this will be my first 4th with her. When anxious she tends to pace so I may be fine with simply cuddling her. She usually calms rapidly when on my lap.

No plans other to stay home and enjoy peace and quiet in a safe environment. Traffic will be a nightmare thru here all week as people travel to their destinations. Most local people want to be near water for this holiday, so the ones with money go on an actual vacation to a beach or lake. People like my neighbors in the trashy trailer head to a river bank with tents, fishing poles, inner tubes, and as much beer as they can afford!

Don't know if my mountain community will have traditional fireworks as we have stage 2 fire warning ( no open fires) and more hopefully, we may get our first rain of this monsoon season. Hoping for lots of rain.

@RedTop , hopefully they can't afford too much for beer! At least you won't have to see or hear them. I'm someone who also enjoys peace and quiet.

We don't do anything, just another day. I refuse to go to our mall on these holdiays. It's always too crowded.

Back in the day did all kinds of things for the fourth. Great memories of those days gone by. No plans and I am off work for the week so I am open. Meeting friends for coffee a couple times this week and catching up on things too.

Taking a road trip tomorrow for the day and stuff like that. Caught up on housework and laundry today and yard work done so see what comes up.

My daughter and family live next door so I never know what might come up. Pool party, cook out, road trips. I know we plan on taking stuff to donations that we have been working on this week some time and maybe a trip to the dump and we have been putting stuff in the garage to go. So work and play but not heading anywhere to watch the fireworks unless they do but I will pass. Too crowded for me.
