Most people will ask what your daughter's suggestion may be.

Luckily my daughter trusted whatever I chose and I let her know ahead of time anyways.

Mine did 'throw' black although it was a royal blue taffeta mermaid 2 piece.

I still have it and hope to wear to one of my grandchildren's weddings some day.

My DILs didn't give suggestions, but I 'followed the rules' and asked what would be preferred, first. Nothing was off limits!

If it's an evening wedding, it would be acceptable. Otherwise, probably not. Ask your daughter how she feels about it.

Sure if it is an evening wedding. It would be kinda outta place if a morning or afternoon wedding, I think.

I did three years ago when DD got married. It was a beautiful long gown.

I just saw a photo of a friend of a friend whose daughter got married yesterday and the mother of the bride also wore a beautiful off the shoulder black gown. She looked appropriate and beautiful!

I've worked many a wedding, & one of the most elegant ones I ever saw was when the bride wore a sleek, creamy off-white gown, and her attendants all wore black and cream.

MOB and MOG did too.

Very Audrey Hepburn-ish.

My brother got married. The bride's Mother's best friend owned a bridal shop. So of course my Mom went to her bridal shop to buy her dress. The best friend of the MOB helped Mom pick out her dress.

It was an afternoon wedding on the patio of an estate over looking the Hudson River.

When the Bride and her Mom saw the dress that my Mom bought, they were VERY displeased. They did not like it. It was a pale yellow lace dress. They told Mom pick something out "more appropriate".

Didn't sit well with Mom. She really liked the dress that she bought and she thought it was appropriate. So back to the bridal shop she went. She bought a pale pink lace dress and it met the approval of the bride and her Mom.

Please check with the bride. You don't want her to be upset.

I have worn black to weddings as a guest. But to me, unless it is an all black and white wedding, it doesn't say happy and joyful to me either.

Not sure why the bride isn't consulted, its her day not ours. I asked my daughter what she preferred and showed her once I picked to make sure it was fine with her.

I think it depends on the venue and month. At a late summer beach wedding I attended the MOB. wore a very heavy looking black dress and it was really out of place. Everyone else was dressed in beachy colors and lighter clothes.

Usually the mothers will coordinate colors with the rest of the wedding party.

NO. I wouldn't dream of wearing black as MOB.

My son got married in May. It took a while but I found a lovely dress that wasn't black. I ended up ordering it from Macy's. It was perfect.
