Having a very difficult time,with what life changes

I had to sell my home, moved into a very small place, the yard here is very small ,had 3 acres where i was, my golden clancy who will be 4 in auguast, he is with the breeder a wonderful lady, may have to give him up i can't get out to walk him,and yard here is tiny,very close units here,please be nice in answering my thread.

I am sorry that you are in this position. No one knows what the circumstances of our life will be.

Having to give up your dog is really tough and I am sure he is a great comfort, not to mention company. Is there any possible way that you could hire a dog walker? There are many people in our neighborhood that can no long take their dogs for walks, but they have a dog walker come daily.

If you have a place to let Clancy out to do his business, a dog walker may be the answer.

Wishing you the best and that you can work something out that is best for you and Clancy. I am sure he would rather be with you than anyone else.

I was thinking too, a dog walker.

With all the changes you have now I know you both will want to be together.

Maybe you can think of some way to repay services with something too, to reduce costs if you need to? Like baking something or anything you can think of.

One other thing, I don't know your physical capabilities, but sometimes having a pet is a reason to get up in the morning to tend to. They are something else to focus on other than our own worries. If it takes longer to do things for Clancy, he doesn't care.

Dogs aren't judgemental.

@goldensrbest, please don't take this the wrong way, my intention is pure. I'm basing my begging on past experience with loved ones that have been in similar circumstances.

Please, please, please discuss what you are going through and how you are feeling with your doctor.

The emotional impact of having to give up a beloved home along with the possibility of having to give up your dog can not only be overwhelming it can trigger the onset of cognitive problems.

I know what has happened to loved ones in a similar situation. You need to be proactive about your mental and emotional health.

I sincerely hope you are able to work something out so you can keep your dog.

Sorry to hear about this situation. Maybe your pup could get used to playing and running in your new smaller back yard. I agree what others are saying about a dog walker, if possible. Good luck.

clancy does not care how small the yard is

my girl Ellie runs and jumps and chases stuff on the porch! lol she is too cute

she gets plenty of exercise on the porch. we play out there daily.

she gets long walks when her aunty visits

ellie is a 65 lb mixed rescue

I was thinking of you just recently. Was wondering how you were doing with your move and your having to give up your golden boy. It must be difficult and I pray that you will get through this challenging time in your life right now. If you feel like it's hopeless then seek help from people there who can offer you help. I would if I were in your shoes.

does your area have doggy day care? that would be great for Clancy and will tire him out. goldens do have a lot of energy...

i am assumig you can still drive?

dog walker is an excellent idea as well.

i agree with the other poster about telling your dr. everything that is going on so they are aware and can offer other supportive services.

@goldensrbest I'm sure it's a very difficult adjustment. Having to move (especially when sizing down), is hard, especially when you had acres of land. You must be missing Clancy a great deal. I know the special bond between dogs and their humans. Take time to decide what's best for you and Clancy; whether it be to have him live with his breeder or remain with you and get a dog walker. I agree, larger dogs need exercise, so that's an important aspect to consider. Is there a Senior Center you can connect with for company and social interactions? I've found that other seniors can be a great referral source as well. Hugs to you. ❤️

Dogs dont care how big their yard is.

What is your physical disability?

Are you able to let him out and back in?

Are you able to play with him?

Is the yard fenced in?

Maybe new neighbirs can help in some daily way people love goldens.

Was thinking about you and the breeder asking at the local HS if there is any local student close to where you live who would be willing to help you out especially if they are required to do community service for graduation,or even a church group could probably find someone willing to help you out.

Bet Clancy doesn't mind the size of the new yard as long as she can be home with you..

I'm sorry you're having a hard time adjusting to your new situation. So many of us have faced similar circumstances. It's hard to come to terms with forced changes (for whatever reason), especially as we age and have been used to a certain lifestyle for many years.

You have received many suggestions here and I hope circumstances change for you for the better soon. I know how important our pets are for our mental and physical health, so I do hope you can find a way to keep your dear Clancy with you. 🩷

Maybe contact a local church group closer to your house and see if anyone there wants a job dog walking. To find someone, I'd think contacting groups such as Lions Club, etc. They might have some folks who needs the motivation to walk, maybe love dogs, and could help out with yours because they love dogs.

Cast a wide net. I pray there is someone out there who would really fit the bill to help care for your pet, and maybe all three of you would benefit! Many prayers for you! I fully sympathize and wish I could help directly--but I can pray for you!

@goldensrbest. I also was unable to walk my dogs. I got a mobility scooter and found they adjusted easily to walking with me on the scooter. We just rode around our quiet suburban streets. I always carried gel pepper spray with me in case we met a hostile loose dog. Never used it.

You can often pick up used scooters at estate sales or advertise for one needed on NextDoor App.
