Rub n buff incident

UGH...I squeezed the tube of black rub n buff and the paint shot out of the tube!! I now have several spots, small, but I notice them, on my carpet. Does anything take paint out of carpet but leaves the color intact?

Have you tried Mr. Clean Kitchen Eraser? I'd try that, it got it off my linoleum in the laundryroom.

@Mom2Dogs. I have no idea what rub and buff is. Is it oil or water based? If oil, try paint thinner on a hidden spot first. If water based, soap and water.

@Kachina624 Rub n Buff is a paint used mostly for craft projects. It comes in small tubes.

I am not sure if it is oil or water, I need to read the text on the tiny tube. I did try a little soap with water, didn't budge.

@We rescue cats I might have a magic eraser in the spare bath...I don't love them but if it works...great! All I can do is try.

@Mom2Dogs. Put some on your finger and see if cool running water washes it off. Does it feel oily, greasy? It's probably oil based. Try not to let it dry.

I don't know if it will work on your carpet but I have successfully removed permanent marker from fabric with Dawn Powerwash.

The product dries to a hard wax finish....the description does not really clarify oil or water. I read a few suggestions on how to remove but I think I have let it set to long to remove...but I am going to try.

Lacquer or mineral spirits is the preferred method if the consumer wants to remove the product from their project.

If it didn't go deep into the carpet, mainly ontop, take a pair of manicuring scissors and careful cut the top of the yarns.

I'd try the Dawn Power Wash first. Mineral spirits are solvents and may not work well on synthetic fiber carpets.

I've also snipped a few fibers from carpet with small manicure scissors as another poster suggested. Worked well on tiny spots.

Formulated from Carnauba waxes, fine metallic powders, and select pigments for a finish no paint can duplicate.

Removing Rub 'n Buff from carpeting or clothing

Scrape away any excess Rub 'n Buff from the surface. Apply Dawn dish soap or Simple Green at full strength by working it in with your fingers. Allow to set and work for 3-4 minutes.

Carpet: Using a clean rag and clear, warm water, begin removing the cleaner and product. Rinse frequently. You may have to repeat this procedure more than once to completely clean the area.

Clothing: Treat the area as described above and put clothing into the washing machine.

NOTE: Do not use cleaners that contain solvents as these may cause the Rub 'n Buff to disperse into the carpet padding.

If it dries like a wax finish try a bag of ice cubes. That works on waxy candle wax. Scrape off any wax you can first.

Also a warm iron with paper towel over area to melt the wax so you can remove it.

@Nightowlz Interesting, I will try that....it dries/feels like paint but according to 'their' description it dires like a wax...a bit confusing.

I really like the product but the black I was using was thinner than normal, it shocked me when it squirted out of the tube!!

Of course now everytime I am near that spot all I see is the paint!!

@Mom2Dogs Try using an old toothbrush and some toothpaste. It has worked for me on some difficult stains.

I have used dawn soap on clothes with no problem.

Last weekend I hosed off a rug for my step daughter as her dog had gotten sick on it. I hosed it really well and added a bit of DAWN soap, it took the stain out as well as the color of out her rug...not horrible but still lifed the color in the stained spots were the DAWN was used.

I wonder if it was not color fast? It was not an expensive rug either.

@Marp. Power wash took some color out of my kitchen floor when the spray portion came loose from the bottle, what a mess!

I will take all suggestions and experiment in a closet, where it won't show if the color lifts.

Try rubbing alcohol with several paper towels, don't rub just blot it, change your towels often, works on ink.

It does says it's made with carnuba wax. It also said if it's a high traffic area it will wear off.
