6 dead and it was a tour operator and sounds like they were from out of the country. It was a family

AND, we just had another accident at DCA (Reagan Nat'l Airport, DC) "Wing Clipping" of 2 planes, felt by members on the plane/s.

Local news reporting that the deceased include a family visiting from Spain and the pilot.

3 adults, 3 children.

This is so sad. I can't imagine taking a family vacation and having something like this happen. It's heartbreaking.

I just watched a video on X that shows the helicopter crash, and while I'm not an expert it looked to me like something had happened to the rear rotor, maybe? It doesn't look quite right?

It hit the water really hard (the white in the distance past the car was the splash when it hit)

I had to wipe my screen. As I saw other "dots' in the sky. Where those sky dots possibly parts of the Copter flying off??

And NOSE DIVE to the water? Those poor ppl, incl children, & adults, ?parents? must have been soo incredibly scared!

I have friends, one a helicopter pilot (who has lots of hours in the air) and an airplane pilot friend, both of whom have flown in and out of that airport many times, and they both say that the main problem is the way the airport is laid out and directs traffic and that it should be fixed, that there have been many, many near crashes through the years. Every pilot that has flown in and out of there has complained about it. Yet nothing is done about it and it has been a problem since the 1990s.

However, the helicopter pilot says the pilot in the incident where the female was piloting was the military's fault for letting her fly that helicopter because of her lack of experience, that she should have had a real pilot and she could have been a co pilot. I am not going to divulge any more than that because he would not want to have to answer to higher powers.

As sad as this is, it was lucky it crashed into the water and not on some busy NYC street.

I just heard a news report on a local NYC station that several eye witnesses on the pier may have seen a bird (or birds) interact with the helicopter.

Looks like catastrophic mechanical failure. Thankfully it didn't collide with another aircraft. Dropped like a rock out of the sky. Very sad for all involved.

This is indeed sad. Do you think laws need to be stricter regarding aircraft. Especially around water? Or, is someone asleep at the wheel? . OR, are inexperienced pilots, lax laws, and not proper guidance into landing at fault? . I am just bringing this up ,as there has been way too many crashes on East Coast in short period of time lately! Have no idea. But I feel so badly for these humans, and their loved ones. It must be terrifying to die like that. Bless them. Gives me the Willie's

I had been watching the NY news about the helicopter crash. I can't even imagine being the parents. I could be wrong, but it looks like the copter blew up on it's descent. Prayers for the family and pilot.

I also heard about the planes at Reagan airport.

I haven't been on a plane in 3 years. I think I'll wait a little longer ...

That is incorrect from what I've read. The instructor pilot was also on the helicopter. He had over 1000 hours flight time. She had over 500 hours.
