Would you report a reckless driver?

Just curious if anyone has done this and what happens when we report a dangerous, speeding, reckless driver in our town.

On our way home from the Animal Hospital, we had to slam on brakes when a Toyota at a high rate of speed jumped in front of us. I have the license plate and spouse has a photo of driver when we got to next stop light.

@Seannie - I certainly would report him! He needs to be stopped before someone gets hurt. Good for you for getting the license plate.

Oh, gee......That's a tough one.

If only a person could remain anonymous.

Around here, a few different drivers 'speed by', and I don't have the time to see the actual license plates.

And, if I'm standing in my front yard, I would feel somewhat 'uneasy' to report it.

Well, that's what I'm thinking right now.

Maybe other drivers who are on the road can take moving videos of the said reckless drivers......

'Still'......It's a toss-up now-a-days.

Keep as safe as possible, everyone. Drivers and folks reporting.

No, I wouldn't report that. If I saw a driver weaving all over the road, or speeding through red lights and almost causing collisions, or going around a stopped bus full of children, then I'd call the police. Your intentions are good, but drivers who are rude and cause you to slam on your brakes are a fact of life unfortunately. Maybe others would feel differently.

@Seannie. The police won't do anything since they didn't see the infraction. However, hopefully the license number will go on their virtual "radar" they get in their briefings. Something for which to watch.

After the fact I probably wouldn't because I'm not sure there's much they could do at that point. I did once call on someone who was in front of me. At first I thought they were just slow and annoying, then I thought maybe it was a delivery person distracted looking for an address but when he turned off that road onto another I dismissed that. He continued to weave and hit a curb so I called and then stayed behind him until cops showed up. I eventually got a little nervous because it must have been clear to him eventually that I was staying behind on purpose. No idea whatever became of it.

Won't do you any good. Nothing happened and if you don't have a video it's hearsay.

I might consider it at the time, depending on how egregious the incident and assuming the driver would likely still be on the road. I'd probably not bother well after the fact, doubting anything could be done at that point.

If I took the time or effort to report every careless driver I see I would be on the phone every day. And in todays times, I doubt police will do anything about it anyway unless he or she caused an accident or you can prove they were drinking or on the phone.

So, I say forget it.

Even if they police can't do anything, it's a great idea to let them be aware as you are saying @Kachina624 .

Frankly I think they would laugh at you. People do that dozens of times a day. Wonder if the OP gets out on the road a lot.

OP here. Thanks all for your feedback. This Toyota Highlander was driving at excessive speed and weaving in and out of lanes recklessly.

There is a LED sign that told him to slow down--and flashed his rate of speed at him.

Guess we just can't fix Stupid, can we?

By the way, if anyone decides to report something like this--do it online. If you call the police, the call is recorded and perp can listen to it. Just a little thing I learned.

I would , and I have. One time we had kids doing daredevil motorcycle stunts on the 101 here in California. Jumping in front of cars, skittering in and out. Everyone was on phones. Later we saw one of them pulled over about a mile up road

Most definitely. Just last week a person from our town reported a school bus driver for driving badly. She not only reported him to the police, she was advised to report him to the school bus company. (she had posted the incident on our local town dialogue)
The school bus driver ran a stop sign making the lady slam on her brakes and then he sped away. She followed him to the next stop sign. (He stopped for it). She got the plate number and the bus number.

Well the story changed a bit.

First the driver cut off the OP. Then he stopped at a red light so apparently he wasn't driving so fast

Now he was driving recklessly in and out of lanes. Still managed the red light.

Sounds like the OP was cut off and that's that.

To pull up next to him and take a picture? Of him sitting at a red light??

No, I would not report him.

As others stated how many times have we been cut off, slammed on brakes, etc

I don't know any drivers story. What he/she is thinking, responding to, whatever.

Driving up on a curb, passing a stopped school bus with flashing red lights, causing an accident while not stopping etc. are one thing.

Being cut off is not.

Nowadays you have to be very careful...that reckless driver could have a loaded gun at the ready and will take aim.

We had such a young fellow who go out of his car at a light, slammed the door and started toward us angry that we beeped the horn at him. As he came towards us, the light changed and everybody beeped at him to get a move on.
