Anchorage volcano may erupt soon

Mt. Spurr is only 75 miles from Anchorage. Now there is an eruption possibility. Last time was in 1992. It will really mess with flights, sunlight and vehicles .

Wow and I just read an article today about Mt Adams in Washington state. If I lived in those areas I would be spooked! I'm old enough to remember all the news when Mt St Helen erupted and the many sad stories of those caught out in it.

"The largest active volcano in Washington state has been rocked by a series of earthquakes, putting experts on high alert. Mount Adams is a 12,000-foot-tall stratovolcano located in south-central Washington, about 55 miles southwest of the city of Yakima.

This volcano is considered a 'high threat' due to its ability to trigger landslides, debris avalanches and mudflow that can travel up to 50 miles per hour down the slope, which would put thousands of people at risk."

I guess everywhere has something though - in FL during fire season/when it's too dry we have to worry about wildfires, and then the upcoming hurricane season (though a tornado did go through the area two days ago). You at least get plenty of warning with hurricanes.

There a very large undersea volcano ready to go off in the South Pacific and CA is long overdue for a major quake.

@Happy2BHere My late husband and I drove to see Mt. St. Helen's and viewed the destruction. It was like the photos that astronauts and NASA sent back from the moon. Scary to think that such things take place.

We also visted the active volcano over on the big island of Hawaii. Mt. Hood was large as well. They are all massive threats.

I also saw the aftermath of Mt. St. Helens. Not on purpose, tho...I was driving up to Seattle... It looked like "science fiction".

Had not seen this news. Hope that not too many are in the danger zone.

Down here we are being warned about Adams. We see it, but I don't personally know anyone who has hiked there. Unlike St Helens, it isn't a tourist trap.

On a clear day, out along the gorge, I saw St Helens and Adams with Rainier in the middle. Only once 😢 Since Hood was behind me, I was surrounded (sort of).

@Kachina624 Now the Hawiian volcano is going off - Kilawayah (sp). Mt. Spurr is Active ow as well.

If Yellowstone goes off, we are all screwed.

Also the Madina fault - the entire part of N. America will be destroyed.

When we were in Hawaii, we of course, saw an active volcano. And, we walked over hardened lava that had bubbling lava and steam still seeping from it. It looked like pulled taffy. The smell of sulphur was pretty strong.

It was amazing to experience, but kind of scary. I was surprised visitors were allowed so close.

Our earth is pretty amazing, but we have to respect it and we surely can't control everything.

I would not be comfortable living near a volcano that was ready to blow.

Are there any nearby glaciers?

If so, I wouldn't want to be on a cruise ship.

Obviously, I don't know anything about where glaciers are located in that area.

Forgot to mention the volcano (huge) in Mexico City when we vacationed there. Not many would be spare dif it really went off big time.

Our Mt. Shasta is ginormous here in CA. It's been dormant but would probably damage at least half this state if it ever went off.

Scary stuff.

Did you know there are four volcanoes in the City of Albuquerque? They are dormant but not extinct. They last blew 156,000 years ago so we don't spend much time worrying about them. They are part of Petroglyphs National Monument. They are on the West side of the city clearly visible from any place in town. That whole area is strewn with huge VW size black and white boulders.

It was a meeting place at one time in the ancient past for indigenous people who posted hundreds of petroglyph messages in the area.

I live near Seattle so that could effect us here too--I remember the Good Friday earthquake in 1964--was a kid and it shook us here too. Different things----I know----but still am a little concerned--in 1980 Mt. St. Helen erupted --that is in eastern WA, I am on the west side ---but we had ash fallout a couple times..

Now, there's a threat over in Italy with one of their volcanos.

I know that when Aetna has activity, somehow here in S. Ca we also have something going off.

It's always something.
