Young People Behaving BADLY!!🫤

Some of the younger generation SCARES me with their LACK of people skills!!! It seems everywhere I go, they are GLUED to their cellphones, or perhaps just disengaged from what is going on around them!😐 Some swear like sailors; totally oblivious to the people who can hear them and how disrespectful it is, or they simply do NOT care!!😠

There are SO many unsettling stories in the news about some of them almost daily; committing heinous crimes!😔 Sadly, we have come to all but expect it!😐

When I was in elementary school, we had Jiminy Cricket reminding us that he was "no fool no siree" and told us the positive reasons why!😁 To be fair, times and societal expectations have changed a bit, and what is accepted as "normal" adolescent behavior! Today, they have active shooter drills in schools and that truly breaks my heart.💔

THANKFULLY, there ARE many young people doing AMAZING things and are well behaved, but their deeds are often overshadowed by yet another SENSELESS tragedy at the hands of a young person! How did we get here???

I am curious about your perspectives and what YOU think can be done to hopefully shift the pendulum in the right direction! It all starts at home, but sadly, some of them live in an environment where where LOVE❤️ and discipline are non-existent😊 I wholeheartedly pray for them!🙏

Seems every generation voices concerns about the next generation. As a teen in the 60s, we were criticized and our parents were worried about social changes. And yet we brought about the Civil Rights Act, and the Voting Rights Act. We protested the Vietnam war and challenged the establishment and influenced fashion, music and personal freedom. They were turbulent times, and yet we turned out just fine and responsible for important changes in society.

I see no need for anyone to shift the pendulem, they don't need your prayers. They will be fine. Just listen to the words of Bob Dylan, The Times They are a Changin.

As time goes by, every generation seems to get a little worse. This same thing happened in Noah's day. I think we are definitely heading in that direction.

Social media and what the children see all over t.v. They witness horrible behavior in singers, movie actors, athletes, etc., etc. They begin to think that these behaviors are normal and acceptable. Also, the demise of families. Sometimes it can't be helped that there are households with only one parent and often the parent has to work long hours. In times past, grandparents often lived in the same home or very nearby and they were able to give support and guidance as well. I know times have change but I believe it benefits the family and especially the child when there is a dinner time and the parent and child sit and eat together and share their experiences of the day. Also, to have the child's nose and also the parent's nose constantly stuck in a smart phone instead of interacting with each other is very detrimental.

About a month ago I was talking with a nurse and she has read in medical journals that the psychiatric side of medicine is seeing a rise in young people that are unable to socialize face to face and handle any real life situations because they are not being taught by parents and only converse with their peers via cell phones. All of this leading to ignorance when they have to deal with real life that will mostly likely turn to anger and hate.

I'm more concerned about people who are mean, nasty, greedy, vengeful, and will lie about anything for personal gain.

We see this every day, nearly every minute, by many people in political and religious leadership positions.

It's certainly not a good example and it doesn't surprise me that others, younger & older, think it's ok to do the same.

@SandySparkles, there is not a single complaint in your first two paragraphs where adult generations could not truthfully be substituted.

You also need to remember that it was prior generations that created today's world. The changes you desire need to start at the top, in this case meaning prior generations setting positive examples to start "shifting the pendulum".

I think a big part of it is parents wanting to be friends with their children. I couldn't be a friend and be a parent when my son was young. He wouldn't have taken me seriously. He will be 24 in a few months and it is just now that I realized I am parenting him less. That's ok because that is the way it should be.

@DrakesMomma I was going to say the same thing. I even see it in my family. Some parents (of course not all) want to be their children's friend, instead of laying out rules and consequences. It's a generational thing. It's sad too because it certainly doesn't help our youth.

Why are you blaming young people and Not the way they were raised?? They act that way because of the adults in their lives. Put the blame where it belongs, with the adults. Oh, and I have seen much more “bad”, entitled behavior from older people than I have ever seen from the young.

Reading this post this morning has me in agreement.

The young generation to me now qualifies 40 and under.

Its more than their language it's their behavior.

Two months into moving in an area that is much different. I diwnsized

and left rural. It's now an issue of living in community

and they seem to live different than I do in this example.

With temps in the 50s I cracked a window for air and at 1 am heard

scuttle. Dog starts barking. As usual I settle her down and return to sleep.

Now this morning I saw why.

Outside my door, about 100 feet, beer cans and condoms along the field walkway.

Makes me sick actually.

For those who say it's " common" I have not acceptance of people who cannot

live with boundaries.

Someone said to me the other day we live in great spiritual warfare, I agree.

I love young people. They keep me young!

The young people I know are kind and inclusive and involved in sports and the arts and their communities. My grandkids, nieces and nephews and their friends are good citizens and concerned for their futures and the future of the earth.

There will always be young people who go off the rails or have moments of disrespect. They are still growing. They are still deciphering the world.

As someone mentioned above, it's the segment of hateful, ignorant, tribal, money and power grubbing adults who actually impact my life I am most concerned with.
