Unfair? Or Just?

Kansas man who donated his fellas to a lesbian couple has been made to pay child support because he didn't go through a doctor/clinic for the procedure. The judge said says that he didn't follow the Kansas law. The gentleman is appealing.

Apparently one of the mothers fell on hard times and sought aid from the state and they asked about the paternity of the child and was given the man's name.

The ladies found the bio dad through a Craigs list ad.

In my opinion the bio Dad should win his appeal. What do you think?

Ignorance of the law is no excuse. (Assuming the judge is right, and the donor did not follow Kansas law.)

I think it's unfair. He was a sperm donor. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

ITA, many of us fall on hard times but I put this in the laps of the two mothers.

No excuse. The average person should educate themselves, or retain an attorney if they're venturing into this kind of territory. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, especially in something this life changing and important.

Well where did he "donate"? I know "how" he donated but if he didn't go to a doctor/clinic - then how did the couple end up using his "donation" to have a child?

I don't know what the Kansas law says - more info is needed to form an opinion, but right now I'd say unfair.

If the couple had not applied for assistance, he would not have been made to dole out child support. I don't look at him as a deadbeat dad in this situation, and that's what he would be labeled had this not been a "donation" case, no matter who had the baby.

I don't care.......look there are more sides to this then "just being a donor"............I don't think anyone should, unless they plan to parent that child to adulthood........I also think it's a dangerous practice......bringing a child into the world is a BIG decision....every person on the face of this planet has a right to know their biological parents........their history........every child needs a mother and a father.....................raven

Take a look on this side of it HIF; Suppose the ladies are medium income and couldn't afford to go to a sperm bank, what then hire a john? The man thought he was doing the right thing by the ladies, its TOTALLY THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!
